I know that there are a lot of really good american programmers out there.
However, from what I've been seeing is that window IDEs are just getting easier and easier to use. IS M$ at Fault here?
I see people who are not very knowledgable in programming coming out with functional applications using crappy RADs. Plus I see hardcore programmers just getting lazier and just using the same wizards and RADs (myself included).
Nice post, I agree with you in most or your points. Not every linux user is antiM$ like it's a religion. And OS is just a tool.
I think linux and free unix users are just fed up without having any choice. It's like the only choice is M$ and M$OS is just way too buggy, slow and bloated. Sure there's the MAC but it's too heavy GUI'd for my taste.
It's not just M$ I hate but every body that supports it's platform.
Maybe it's just me but I feel it's just part of some kind of conspiracy to come out with such bloated software just to force people to buy new chips.
Think about it.
Computer prices are always dropping if suddenly everyone came out with resource effiecient software, computer companies would go out of business!
You can't push someone into buying a pricey Pentium III computer while a cheap P100 MHZ will do the job just as well.
Anyways, I really liked this comment: "Because thanks to Microsoft, (as a friend of mine commonly says) I can go out and buy a cheap-ass 486-120, install FreeBSD on it, and smoke the hell off people running P-200's."
I still run an old P100 Mhz (non MMX),a 6 gig hard drive with 48 megs of RAM. MAN does linux fly on this baby! It does what I need and I never have to reboot.
I wonder if FreeBSD would perform better? Any diehard freebsd users out there to comment?
I enjoyed watching the CNN show but I didn't like the fact that they only mentioned Redhat. I guess the reporters didn't know much about it but just heard of Redhat.
It's great exposure for linux so I can't complain. But it would have been better if they mentioned that there's a lot of GNU software and other distros.

I can see your frustration. Cutting just a few minutes can make a huge different on a big STL project.
I don't know why they haven't added precompiled header support to GCC.
I think someone mentioned PGCC has it. I used to compile my kernel myself and it's great but I don't know much about it. Everything runs much smoother though.
It's amazing how obnoxious some slashdotters are out there. If you want to make a comment make it a constructive one instead of blurting out moron or stupid.
I for one am really elated at the events today. Alternative OS have gotten their word out and we got M$ attention. Even though few or nobody got their money back we can all agree we got what we wanted, (FREE PUBLICITY)
I contacted my vendor.
For some "moronic" reason they insist on returning the entire computer. How blind are they to the EULA? It clearly doesn't mention the HARDWARE! The license is for OS not the computer.
They actually believe a computer can run without windows on it! Jesus christ I read that my vendor was going to honor the EULA and even ship computers with linux. Well not in C-A-N-A-D-A.

Just like another/.er here I too bought a rammstein CD. Even some other less know groups such as Beborn Beton, Apoptygma Bezerk and you can't beat Frontline Assembly. I was introduced to their music from some pirated MP3s. If I were to really on just the radio I would never even hear their music. I now spend more money on CDs than ever before.
Without Corel Canada's software industry will be demolished. Also , this would be one of the biggest disasters for linux! Corel is one of our largest supporter.
I really like the direction Corel is going. I predict big gains for Corel in the coming decade.
Adobe's scared of Gimp? Corel sure ins't Copeland (CEO) actually commented on Gimp and said it's a great application!

All this is just my opinion.

My RH5.2 crashes whenever I pick Workstation or Server installation. Doesn't matter since I always pick custom anyways.
