Do not buy Hp all that you will do is waist your money, a Dell may be.
What you will need is a minimum of 4 cores for CPU 2.3 GHz. AMD or Intel.
A minimum of 8 GB Ram, Minimum 650 Power Supply.
Video card at least a 970 TI Nvidia or 980 AMD.
At least $ 42.00 air cooler for CPU, and minimum 1 TB hard drive.
The case well that is up to you.
Just make sure you have room to work with and expand, good air flow is a must.
If you have Windows 7 use it, install it on a 300 GB partition.
The rest you partition later for Linux and a 2ND NTFS partition for your Windows files.
Use the TV as the Monitor use the HDMI out put from your video card.
On Windows scale fonts to 200 for better viewing.
If you have a low budget use ninite.com to install other programs free of spam.
Like Teracopy, Revo, Malwarebites, and other applications.
And to cut the cord use Kodi on Windows or Linux.
The specs will give you at least 3 years of use, and room to expand or update.

Ho there is one more thing, the way text to speech works is to highlight the text & copy.
On the text to speech engine set to look at the clip board that is it.

One was do to the monitor that I use witch is a 32 inch 3D TV, and add to this that I am 7 feet from it.
Make it hard to read text in some applications, so I did some of this things.
In windows I use the scalier of DPI to 200 next reduce screen light by 30%, and I use text to speech.
Had to change a few other things like removed Adobe Acrobat and now I use Foxit reader.
When you use Adobe and text to speech reader any PDF is being read to you 4 to 6 times over and over.
So replace it with Foxit reader the TTS reader will only read the text to you only one time.

the advantages are it can turn any text file to and audio file, I use it before there ware audio books.

I listen to my e books wild driving to work, now days just use it in Linux OS under Wine.

Let start are you going to lock the doors, are you going monitor the internal entries.

Yes you do get a universal drivers kit that manages all the printer, the Brother you can get each driver separately for each OS.

How I have use for the past 3 years brothers MFC-J6910W it prints up to A34 and scans that as well.

But can say that this printer has paid for it self 20 times over just in the first year, it is big ugly but it is a work horse.

Hello what you want is to build it your self. Do not buy Hp all that you will do is waist your money, a Dell may be. What you will need is a minimum of 4 cores for CPU 2.3 GHz. AMD or Intel. A minimum of 8 GB Ram, Minimum 650 Power Supply. Video card at least a 970 TI Nvidia or 980 AMD. At least $ 42.00 air cooler for CPU, and minimum 1 TB hard drive. The case well that is up to you. Just make sure you have room to work with and expand, good air flow is a must. If you have Windows 7 use it, install it on a 300 GB partition. The rest you partition later for Linux and a 2ND NTFS partition for your Windows files. Use the TV as the Monitor use the HDMI out put from your video card. On Windows scale fonts to 200 for better viewing. If you have a low budget use ninite.com to install other programs free of spam. Like Teracopy, Revo, Malwarebites, and other applications. And to cut the cord use Kodi on Windows or Linux. The specs will give you at least 3 years of use, and room to expand or update. Hope this helps.
Ho there is one more thing, the way text to speech works is to highlight the text & copy. On the text to speech engine set to look at the clip board that is it. It is the same for all versions free or payed. It will take some time to get use to the voice, but that is just like every thing in this world. I like the old Appi voices like the one on TTS reader, I do not like the new voices from MS. But like I stated to each his own, and hope this helps you out.
Having to deal with some of the same problems that you have mention. One was do to the monitor that I use witch is a 32 inch 3D TV, and add to this that I am 7 feet from it. Make it hard to read text in some applications, so I did some of this things. In windows I use the scalier of DPI to 200 next reduce screen light by 30%, and I use text to speech. Had to change a few other things like removed Adobe Acrobat and now I use Foxit reader. When you use Adobe and text to speech reader any PDF is being read to you 4 to 6 times over and over. So replace it with Foxit reader the TTS reader will only read the text to you only one time. The TTS reader is free software the link http://www.sphenet.com/TTSRead... The other is to use 2nd speech center I had purchased this 8 years ago back then it was only $24.95. the advantages are it can turn any text file to and audio file, I use it before there ware audio books. It also has one other benefit that is that you can add and modify its dictionary as to it pronunciation. The voices are not like a human's, but you can purchase those individually. I listen to my e books wild driving to work, now days just use it in Linux OS under Wine. Now as to the voices I have only use the defaults since windows 95 + and Cepstral's William for Linux & windows at $115.00 for software each OS. And as to magnifier the unless you are going to spend some money, you are limited to some that just will not give but a simple interface. But on a good note you can adjust the windows magnifier to doc Ctrl + Alt + D on top or full screen Ctrl + Alt + F or the default Ctrl + Alt + L witch is the lens effect. OK you mention that there is no real VR in Linux, that is BS. No the problem is that you are depending on oracle to deliver, that is not going to happen. Or even some other close source company that is ever going to work. But the software is done and working, to that in a minute. And as to hardware go with DELL, Asus or Lenovo, HP are just cheap and just break down. What you need to ask is before purchase what is the UEFI is support, and what OS do they sell it with. Granted HP dose sell Ubuntu laptops, but they are under powered and over priced. Hardware drivers are no longer the problem, nor is VR under Linux. What are your connectivity requirements, how many USB ports are you going to use at one time. Do you need HDMI or just VGA, are you going to use thunder bolt or USB 3.1. Now to the OS my recommendation is Robo Linux or at least the VR software. This software dose what they advertize, just copy your windows OS and run under Linux and use the VR. I still do not understand why all of Linux user say all software has to be free, that is not true. If you donate you are paying for it, you are sponsoring someones work. Hell they will pay for bloated and spy-ware with windows and OSX, but not with Linux. Someone is doing the work to make your life simpler, why not help the work to go on. It is $2.37 for a years support and $9.95 for the VR software to just import your current OS to Linux. The developer is not charging for the VR or Linux, but for his work to Import your current OS to Linux the just works and is protected under Linux. And if any thing goes wrong you can just restore it back to that same point. Plus your are paying for support with the OS for a year for just $2.37, plus any update that he makes in that year. I have distro hopped for the past 15 years, this is one of the most stable and fastest OS that I have used. I developed software so I work from Linux and I play on windows. Till the time that steam is fully out of beta, this has been my best option. I save time and multiple boots between OS. I have 5 PC'S and 2 Laptops and have fond the most time saver with this software. 4 PC'S have Windows 7 Ultimate now they all run under Linux and no more problems. And the laptops just run Linux, one of them is use Robo Linux and VR windows 7. Ho by the way the laptops are a Dell 5370 and a Asus K55N-RHA8N29. OK so you want a personal security system, you are going to need a few things. Let start are you going to lock the doors, are you going monitor the internal entries. Are you going to to monitor for break ins and fire and windows, time lock, web monitoring. Well to this things you are going to need a PC capture card and software and some power supplies. The software in simple use zone minder http://www.zoneminder.com/ if you are just going for recording use yamcam http://www.yawcam.com/ You will also need a VPN for monitoring your system. For interface board you can use a raspberry pi or something that will be used for contact trigger points. in ether case you will need a dedicated PC, a capture card or some USB web cams. Now security doors you will use electromagnetic locks you do not deed more then 650 lbs. Fire & smoke and a sound discriminators for the windows, an interface board or and old security system sends a signal to the PC. For the windows use shutters will locks, this is the most likely place for a break in other then back door. And notion detector are a plus but not always needed if you are using software, but low lucks cameras. No need for an over priced security company, just dose things plus internet and a large UPS system and for backup a USB dongle for cell communication. And if you are using cameras are to be placed at eye level, and color is not a requirement just a sharp view. Pin hole cameras are good but remember they only have a 3 foot distance view, and are wide angle view limit then to eye level around 5 feet of the floor. The PC some ware out of the way, a most is good ventilation and large hard drive. How much is the cost, that is up to you how far are you willing to go. That sounds like HP's, Epson's & Canon's drivers are the problem, it is not the same for Brother printer. Yes you do get a universal drivers kit that manages all the printer, the Brother you can get each driver separately for each OS. That means that you can still use any of the parts of the multifunction individual regardless if there is ink. That is what I like a bought the MFC-J6910w, it just works. I could never say the same for all the other printers not even a plotter that I sold just after a months use. A $7000.00 plotter just was not worth the money or the headaches that it caused, it was just simpler to pay for printing job at the local store. We just proofed in A34 and then to print in scale one's it was time to turn in the project. That proofs that sometimes in house is not always best thing, it pays to have it done out side.
I have used in the past canon 600 Epson 300, 8230, 1278, 12 75, printers the are crap. How I have use for the past 3 years brothers MFC-J6910W it prints up to A34 and scans that as well. This has been a real work horse, in My house with 3 kids ages 15 to 22. We go though 2000 copies of letter & legal paper per month, and that has been the minimum for the past 2 years. This do not even count all the other formats like A34. I use the original cartridges for the first 3 months, after that I went and got a refillable kit that cost $45.00 and I am still filling up. The level meter on this printer is a float that measure the level of each ink color, this is fast printer up to 22 pages per min color and 35 min in black. This has been the best ink printer and the most economical of all, one refill prints 3000 pages at 10% color. I can not say any thing for the new brother printers, because the new ones have gone to the new system electronic chips. But can say that this printer has paid for it self 20 times over just in the first year, it is big ugly but it is a work horse. And I have configured it to run on my network with all OS, android, MS, & Linux, And WIFI stand alone.

From editing audio tracks to music production and music scores, and as to VST plugins you can get everything that you would ever need. And as far of it being out dated software Ardour will keep update in audio plugins for a modest fee.
