well, if it's 50 meters we could nuke it far away enough so that the small debris are not really a problem... if we launch an artificial satellite around the satellite, we could deviate it very slowly enough so that it just flies by earth (attraction between the 2 objects will deviate from original path)... shouldnt be a big problem even if the rock is on collision course... it would have been more of a problem if it was a larger object though
The thinking seems to be warrior like personalities which will obey orders without thinking while there are Geeks will tend to use logic and are a liability to the chain of command... they may overthink their assignments and end up losing valuable time... if they do the assignment at all... but in my humble opinion it is short sighted to say geeks are not fit for cyber warfare the same way it is short sighted to say non geek profiles can't bring a different positive outcomes to this type of team.
What I think is, like in any team, there needs to be all sorts of various personalities, pluri disciplinary to bring about an all-encompassing thinking war machine that will bring the best results in the best reaction time.
if you want to make a business out of pirating content, you have to do it in a massive scale:)... if you only pirate a handful of songs and share them for a little while, you're a target
you have a very good point... although, actually, an upgrade to linux + wine (and maybe reactos when it gets more mature) might allow better compatibility in some cases:)... I know it's not completely there yet, but eventually, the only way to run old applications on modern hardware will be emulation:)... it is already especially true for some dos applications with dos box vs ms dos where the processor is too fast for the application to run decently.
you make a very good point... but be aware the guy mentions he is a FORMER employee of novell... it may sound like a tiny difference but it is significant... that means he moved on and he is not paid anymore by novell. generally when people quit it is because they are not satisfied with their former employee..
if someone presses it, make sure to have a sexy female voice say "doomsday device activated".... include a loud countdown to apocalypse, blinking lights, and way to counteract the measure at the other end of the building with lots of traps... for good measure, include speakers in the corridor leading to it that will follow the hero he has no chance of beating the system
well, at's least what they do in the movies I've seen:)
You mean like putting a small room at a major ISP with unrestricted access to the data flow... that wouldn't happen, especially in industrialized countries... heck even if it did, people would eventually find out and the telecom companies would get prosecuted... it's not like they have immunity or something;)
Looks like this method relies on hot air, litterally;)
hence the future dialog with an imaginary friend I'd love to have... "no more gas, looks like we're stuck _ no lets go! _ what, you think you're gonna just pop out a gasoline out thin air? _ well, actually...;)"
Oh don't worry, we're working on it... we've been delayed by those green people... not the martians of course, the martians did a good job at turning their planet into a big desert:)... I wish they were still around so we could speed up the process:)... sheesh, saving the planet... what are they thinking?
This is slashdot my friend, people post mathematical equations about what women look like, hypothesise about the probability of running into one... heck a rare few have seen one once... without make up?:)
Too bad I don't have mod points, I did find the end of the post funny :)
Who would do such a thing? Why use the normal sequence of things? it's so old fashioned :p

seamonkey... seabird... I can't wait til they come up with a see-through product :)
... so they had to find yet another way to slow things down... so the web could live up to its reputation of "world wide wait" ;)

I thought it was more like a rear end as it's acting like an ass ;)

Quick quick, copyright it, trademark it before Oreilly trademarks it/ copyrights it :)
2099 year of linux on the desktop? ;)
one day...
maybe he bing'd it... but it does not necessarily he dig'd the information he found :)
I believe you have to place one next to the other... on one side it attracts, on another it repels... you should try it, it's a lot of fun :p

Isn't what happened with another civilisation around the time of the dinosaurs? :)

_ well, actually...
Contract with cryogenic facility... bring me back when X... that would definitely drive their sales up if they bring out at least a couple people
Anonymous coward? you talk about selling your id to the highest bidder... you've been there long enough to know don't even have an id :)

That sentence is brilliant :)
Yeah but I believe, because it happened in deep water, it should more appropriately be called the blue screen of DEPTH

driverless car... we just used to call them brainless drivers ;)... now, 100 tera bytes of their driving would definitely interesting and puzzling :)
