  1. Re:What about the JJ -- NJJ Editing? on Convert Movies From R to PG13 to PG On The Fly · · Score: 1
Speaking of which, did anyone notice that Jar-Jar did not make an appearance in the EP2 trailer? I guess this shouldn't come as a suprise... I mean they do want people to actually pay money to watch the movie, don't they?

  2. Re:Nomad Jukebox vs. iPod on Apple releases iPod · · Score: 1

Nomad Jukebox is Mac and PC, and as far as iPod goes... it is a firewire disk too... so I'd expect that it is not "officially" supported but any pc with firewire could access it.

  3. Nomad Jukebox vs. iPod on Apple releases iPod · · Score: 1
Here's the deal... Nomad versus iPod

It is a very tough decision. Nomad is less expensive, but you definitely pay for the smaller size of iPod and the fast interface. Nomad has some cool features like line-in recording and variable playback rates but so does iPod with its integration with iTunes and neat scrolling system. (Not to mention mutiple language support.) Who knows, it's a photo-finish in my book.

"iPod supports English, French, German and Japanese, and can even display different languages simultaneously. So you can view French songs (with native language information tags) alongside German, Japanese and American ones."

At last I can listen to Kraftwerk as it should be heard!

  5. Re:Coming up next... on Robot Wars Coming Stateside · · Score: 1

Strange you should bring this up, I seriously just was playing this game yesterday over an AppleTalk network between a IIci and a PowerMac 6100/60. If there was to be an update, it would have to be good and build off of RoboSport's original strengths. Sort of like RailroadTycoon II versus I, it is one of the rare times when the sequal to the game was much better than the original imho.

  6. Well... on Hitachi Digital Camcorder Records To 8cm DVD-RAM · · Score: 1

Although a DVD-RAM digital video camera is a huge step up from my old fashion Hi8 Sony digital video camera, it seems kind of like an old technology compared to a SuperDrive. (CD-RW / DVD-R combo)

  7. Data files to digital video camera? on Hitachi Digital Camcorder Records To 8cm DVD-RAM · · Score: 1

I know this is a little off subject, but does anyone if a program for the Mac or another OS exists that will let me backup files (other than movies) to my digital video camera? These Hi8 tapes are ultra cheap and I'm sure they hold a bundle.

Also, I've used a DVD-RAM drive before on a G4, and it mounts like a normal hard disk, which is very neat. Will this new Hitachi work similarly? If it doesn't, it should.

  8. Robot Wars' puny weapons on Battlebots Starting On Comedy Central Tonight · · Score: 1
The reason why the weapons on Robot Wars are weak compared to BattleBots' is the maximum weight allowance.

A RobotWars robot in the 'Heavy Weight' category can be as heavy as 90 kg, or about 200 pounds. A BattleBot can weigh up to 488 pounds, or about 221 kg. So the engineers have about 250% more weight to work with...

That makes a big difference folks.

  9. Why take chances? on Water On The North Pole · · Score: 1
It really is not yet proven whether or not human-kind is having an impact on the Earth's natural climate. I think too many people say they won't take action unless they know for sure. That is one hell of a gamble to take, though.

Wouldn't it be wisest to not take the chance of turning Earth into a barren wasteland though? How could pumping chemicals into the atmosphere do any good? Until we fully understand the Earth's climate, if we ever do, we really shouldn't be doing things that future generations will regret.

  10. Beware of your furry friends... on Caffeine Vault · · Score: 1
I learned that caffine could kill the hard way when my ten pound dog got into a 1 pound bag of chocolate chips. Do the math, thats a big caffine to body weight ratio. Poor thing overdosed and died of that and pneumonia.

Please, if you read this... keep the caffine out of your pets' reach so you don't have to go through what I went through as a little kid.

  11. So what would you change? on Slashdot Meets X-Men · · Score: 1
Alright, a lot of reviewers keep complaining that there wasn't enough character development in the movie. If the whole movie was spent going through every single character's childhood, (we only got a glimse at Magneto's) and their life struggles up until the X-Men... what the heck kind of movie would it be then?

I thought the balance between action and other aspects was near perfect. If people want to know more about these fictitious characters, read some comics. Until then, just wait until the next movie when I am sure the plot will have more to do with other characters. It was certainly open to a sequel, I'm not sure how much more open they could have left it without saying "To be continued..."

  13. What's Apple's real motive here? on New Mice from Apple - Without Buttons? · · Score: 1
Ok folks, imagine this. A cordless, touch sensitive, hockey puck mouse. Will Apple be shipping any hockey sticks with it? 'Cause I'm up for a round of net hockey, don't know about you.

Seriously though, would a cordless mouse really be wise if Apple were to ship them with the iMac or G4? Stuff gets ripped off from school way too often, and that it attached with a cord! Just think if all the mice in a computer lab were just sitting there... nightmare

I don't think of this rumor any more of what I did of the Apple PalmPilot thing, but it is still fun to imagine eh?

  14. Viruses! on Windows 2000 Has 65,000+ Bugs · · Score: 1

At last programmers won't have to worry about making viruses for Win2000, they come built in, all 65k of em!

Seriously though, viruses are based on bugs and loopholes, right? So, wouldn't an os with 65k+ of them (I'm sure a lot haven't been discovered) have an awful lot of possiblity for some chaotic programmers to go nuts with it? I'm sticking with osx.
