I was at CMU watching the feed in McConomy Auditorium. We watched the feed (which was pathetic BTW) and the announcer said that Sandstorm had suffered engine failure. A cell phone call came shortly from students out in CA at the course. Apparently sandstorm ran over some object, it got caught in the undercarriage of the vehicle, and the axle fractured. This is what we were told, although I can not verify the exact details. Hope this helps out.
Wasnt the risk of undercarriage entanglement a considered issue from the start? It seems coating the underside in diamondplate would have at least let objects slide or be deflected away from the internal workings of the vehicle.
Instead of $400 for a proven product with mass market appeal and multiple improvement revisions, you'll pay $330 for a first revision product and a lock-in to the MusicMatch service and WMP9? I'm not 100% sure I understand your point. Can you clarify?
How is it irrelevant? Gruber makes some great points, mostly about the usability of the product. His comparison, just like the/. post, is regarding the differences between the clear market favorite, and the new guy.
The best point he makes is about the scroll wheel. Apple spends gadzooks of money on usability testing and it's obvious when you use an iPod. Dell clearly didn't spend that much time on usability when creating the DJ. They went the cheap way out, with a mechanical wheel rather than a touch sensor with no moving parts.
I do not own an iPod. I wish I did. But I'll take quality over quantity anyday. The quality of the link, and the relevance of the article is something I was glad to see in this thread.
"...Funny considering that DVD's are only in about a third of American homes (about 30 million..."
Considering the census says the US has about 300 million people... I'm not sur ethe authors math is correct. Or I may be reading that statement incorrectly...

Apple invented FireWire in the mid-90s and shepherded it to become the established cross-platform industry standard IEEE 1394. FireWire is a high-speed serial input/output technology for connecting digital devices such as digital camcorders and cameras to desktop and portable computers. Widely adopted by digital peripheral companies such as Sony, Canon, JVC and Kodak, FireWire has become the established industry standard for both consumers and professionals.
The FireWire advantage can be summed up in three words: speed, speed, and more speed--at 400Mbps, it has more than 30 times the bandwidth of USB, which makes it the perfect choice for high-speed storage and serious video capture. Here are some other benefits:
Supports up to 63 devices using cable lengths up to 14 feet.
Hot-pluggable--you don't have to turn off a scanner or CD drive to connect or disconnect it, and you don't need to restart your computer.
FireWire cables are a snap to connect--you don't need device IDs, jumpers, DIP switches, screws, latches or terminators.
Those who appealed to the chimney effect - hot air rising within the shower causes cool air to come in from below. This hypothesis can be readily defeated by taking a cold shower and observing that the curtain billows nonetheless.
My college roomate rants: "bah, I've heard this before, but the people who use the "cold" shower theory to disprove the chiney affect rarely use water colder than room temperature. Use 40F water and tell me what happens."

"The researchers theorize that it is possible for Callisto, Ganymede and Europa to be able to build up enough oxygen in their subsurface salt water oceans to support life."
Whoever said that oxygen was neccessary to support life?
next up in animation history... Final Fantasy. The animation looks thrilling, but the story might be a little too mcuh for most people. With Shrek, aiming for a young crowd was a safe bet, but with FF, it seems it's going after that 15 to 35 yr age demographic. Good idea or not? Heck if I know, but some of the graphics in that are truly ahead of their time.
and wintel is a *real* 32-bit multithreaded OS? hardly... and if you are speaking of Linux, then I would suffer to use the work *real*, since Linux is a big ongoing test. That's why there isn't a mass outpouring of consumer support for it.
We did this at my college... the computer support staff hired CS and IT students to work in high profile positions in the network administration of computer services.
We had a student network admin, webmaster, help desk staff, UNIX admin, software tech, and multiple hardware techs.
It was the most experience I could have possibly recieved in college. On the job experience is way better than the degree.

I wouldn't sat it is the MOST addcitive but it definately has it's place in my brain.
When I first bought it for the original Nintendo back in the early 1990's I played it for upwards of 5 hours per night. Which was alot for a 12 year old at the time. I began to see everything I did as an innefficent move or an innefficient move. I learned to stop when I was pouring myself a glass of iced tea, and I thought to myself, "I should be careful how I pour this to make sure it all fits into the glass correctly." I could actually see the tea pouring into the glass in Tetris shapes. That was all I had for Tetris after that.

*sigh* It's really sad to me that people resort to such comments. It's like some sort of weird racism (OSism, if you will). get over it. get over yourself. get over your near sightedness.
What is the amount of emission output on biodiesel?

on the order of 4000 servers, the easiest thing to do would be to name the machine in the following fashion:
Make + last 2 segments of the machines IP.
So the HP/UX machine would be: hp220192.domain.com
This way you will be sure to have unique names, and something that is vaguely useful as well.
pf,
do you have any links for this info? i'd be interested in pursuing this information...
of course I read the story dumbass... check the name. I'm the one who had it posted.
yeah, if you read through it says that it uses the native Aqua interfaces as well as sets apps up to use the Aqua interface.
this is why I don't read anything modded below a 2...
Of course the Mac hardware runs linux. THere are multiple versions of linux for PPC architecture. What hole have you been living in? Ohhh... 1987...
Wake up. LinuxPPC, YellowDog, MkLinux, etc...
