Yeah, at first glance it sounds like a great idea for "the rest of us" to get things 15-20 years faster. But the flip side is, "what's in it for the creator/investors?" Investors deserve to get something out of the deal, too.
A common argument, but I think there would be just as much invention and innovation even if there was no patent advantage for the creator.
The advantage the creator has is that they have a head-start on the competition by nature of having the invention, and in my opinion that is enough.
Can anyone tell me how they can be sure that by changing the trajectory of a "near miss" comet, they aren't forcing it into the path of another orbiting body? Couldn't such a collission potentially see the comet coming at us for real this time?
Basically what I'm saying is, leave well enough alone.
But if these operating systems had decent metadata collecting filesystems you wouldn't need to worry about the uninstalling (or possibly even installing for that matter!). The filesystem would know who put what where and every single dependency.
Basically what I think I'm saying is that the "standard installer" should be at a much lower level than a bunch of dlls sitting on top of everything else.
I don't see anyone being up in arms over the video being captured by using ATMs or speed cameras.
I think the point is that the banks and police are constrained by certain guidelines when taking your picture. Such rules would not apply or would be difficult to enforce with your average guy on the street.
I personally don't mind being photographed whilst in a public place as I am seen by anyone in that public place anyway. The differences arise when that picture is propogated and I start to appear in places I would not normally (eg. dodgy websites!).
I wish Ubuntu would get their act together on Eclipse.

I don't know about you but I reckon this is really cool. I'd love to see who are the gun programmers at the moment.
Then again I guess by the time you find out they've already done their best work.

Oh my god that's good. I think you've just managed to piss off about 95% of people here (me included!) :)

So when will slashdot get picture profiles?
