You think the BPO call centers in India are answering your De*l support calls using Skype or Yahoo? Oh, please....
Most large call centers are using IP PBX "architecture". By IP WAN and QoS, the call center in India and the call center in US become one big "virtual" call center under one virtual IP PBX. Yes, there is voice traffic flowing between US and India, but that's not Skype or Yahoo voice or MSN.
These IP PBX brands include Avaya, Cisco, Nortel, and many others. I bet these are "licensed" VoIP brands in India.
Quote: Today's modern PBX is just another Linux server in the dataroom
I agree. But you know what? Our company (among biggest in US) has a freaking corp standard, and they do not accept Linux as server or desktop OS!
As a result, when we need to upgrade our existing Avaya PBX (within corp standard) to new Avaya 8700 PBX, we got challenges from our CIO (not him, but his people) that we should not use Linux server or equipment....
I think one of the important concern regarding VoIP/PBX is that traditional PBX does NOT interfere or integrate with your network directly. Your telephone still works when your network is infected by Nimda or down or whatever.
However, if you deploy VoIP in office, and if you lower the investment by using existing network - you can expect problem; because we've tried it and we got problems like "echo", conversation became half-duplex (one side cannot hear the other), or abnormal disconnect.
One of the better approach is to use a separate network for IP phones. But then, I'd rather use traditional phones and PBX...
newest Avaya PBX (e.g. 8700) all run on Linux. Red-Hat to be exact.
old version of voice mail Audix runs on Novell UNIXware (forgot the real name). It's 386-UNIX anyway. New version of Avaya voice mail is Intuity Audix, runs on Linux.

OQO Examined
·
· Score: 4, Interesting
Now that we have
Sony Vaio Type U , I wonder why this OQO took so long to design/produce/whatever!
I have seen Sony Vaio Type U in person. They are sold in shops already. And obviously, the Sony Vaio is more appealing.
BTW, OQO's weight is 14oz (or 397g). Sony Vaio Type U is 550g.
(me from Hong Kong)
I have been to Japan twice this year, 3 times in past 2 years.... I can observe that the most famous and the more admired star/person/celebrity in Japan is -- David Beckham. You can see his TV ads, posters everywhere.
Agree. the large HDD space is to replace all your video tapes.
And, actually, I think it will be very useful for sports writers, coachs, etc.... they can record many games and do scouting and analysis. they will find this Cocoon very useful.
Similarly, I'd like to record all horse racing matches for review/analysis in summer.
And BTW, how many people bought Eminem's latest CD?! People have been selling Eminem's CD BEFORE its release! And still millons of people are buying the official CD after the officlal release.
I think one of the most important thing is to have tools cloning PCs (whatever OS). Whoever managing the Lab will not want to do *real* setup for tens of PCs.
I donno, does Ghost work with Linux? If there exists such kind of tools, then the "implementation feasibility" is good.
I also can't use browser w/o tab now. But moreover, mozilla can disable all pop-up/pop-down ads (disable opening of unrequested windows). This small feature makes me love it.
Another thought: will sites (e.g. Yahoo!) block or *dislike* mozilla just because their pop-up ads won't work?!
Their excellent album "Parachutes" in 2000 got great reviews from critics from NME to Q to others. But still, dotmusic.com gave it 3 out of 5.
What I wanna say is that: sometimes, some people would like to critize something just because such kind of comments would make them "different" from others, and to show that they *seem to be* superior.
Sigh....

The most popular is, hands down, Championship Manager.

Has MSWL been able to implement 10% of the features of CM?
and don't forget OS/2.
I believe OS/2 Warp 3 onwards had been 32-bit OS, able to support 16-bit apps.

UltraEdit.
Fast, easy to use, feature rich.
But it's a shareware and not really an IDE.
