    Exactly. The first thing is what I said Re: heat. As for the second, yes... thermo would be even more unbearable with a non-linear temperature system.

    It is a falsehood, having a zero on the scale implies that it is acheivable. However it is not, it would take inifinite energy to
    extract the last vestiges of heat in a very cold system.

    No, it's not that big of a difference. *Especially* at that
    temperature. You are inferring things from the arbitrary units
    we have chosen to repressent temperature in. In fact, a linear
    temperature scale is sub-optimal because among other things it
    introduces the falsehood of an absolute zero. An exponential
    scale would avoid this. What you are really wanting to consider
    is the difference in heat (heat is energy but too often confused
    with temeperature).

    To clarify the OP is a non-native speaker complaining about
    the comprehensibility of native speakers. He presumably learned
    the Queen's English or one of the increasingly common local
    butcherings of English (e.g; Engrish). Therefore your particular
    preference for a non-standard definition of accent is irrelevant.

    That is hardly the same thing as it's in a different language
    altogether. I can say from personal experience that it's not as
    if your typical frenchman can distinguish between an American
    speaking French or an Englishman speaking French. Webster:

            or of any other group

    General American aka Standard Midwestern (I could have sworn it was calle dbroadcast English) is quite different from say a Southern accent. Of course, IMHO California English is accent neutral (not necessarily vocabulary neutral, but accent neutral). See also

    Seen it too. I've sometimes managed to recover. I can't recall how though... it may have been by opening a page in a new window or something. I do know when it's come
    back all tabs work. Instead of C-n you can also try relaunching the executable while
    yuor current session is running (it seems to do a bit more work in cleaning/instantiating than C-n).

    Giving a "cute" name to an arbitrary gene is not equating the two.
    Is the trend of cutesy names a good idea? Probably not? Might joe
    six-pack not be able to differentiate between the two; using
    context or realizing that the world is not, in fact, black and white? Possibly.

    But as I've remarked elsewhere "line extensions" have been proliferating of late. Tropical Sprite Remix (Coca Cola), Holiday Spice Pepsi, Mountain Dew Midnight (PepsiCo), miscellaneous falvors of Fresca (Coca Cola)... even M&M Mars' renaming a Mars bar an Almond Snickers. I suspect their are several reasons: laziness/leveraging existing line strength (perhaps to resist the push of micro-markets?), creating corporation loyalty instead of brand loyalty. Krusty Brand potato chips anyone?

    Does nothing but cause a (recoverable) hang for me in my FF 1.0.7
    Wait for the alert show up, CPU to max out, and when it falls off
    kill the window and when prompted that it's not responding hit
    cancel. the dailog is gone but the browser remains. Ouch that hurts
    sooooo much.
