Started with zipslack about a month after I'd switched from commodore, then used mandrake. From there I went to SuSE, and finally i've been using Gentoo for about ten years and loving it.
You need to set up a Rait, or a RAID. using tapes.
A friend and I set up identical backup. systems. Each has three 1tb sata drives. in raid5 that essentual data is mirrored to. every 10 minutes via rsync on a. staggered schedule (machine 0 at:00, machine 1 at:10, etc), and five 24/48. scsi tape drives. Three are used to create 3 stripe backups and the other two no create duplicate tapes.
I mail my duplicates to him, and he send his to me. The entire system cost less than $500 to setup, is easy to use, efficent and secure.
I've been watching the prices
of these, waiting for a drop, then hack into my netbook a internal
usb compact flash adapter with a microdrive for swap and/home
The solution to this is pretty apparent. Use Knoppix or another LiveCD linux of your choice.
The school can't connect if the software needed isn't running, and if you don't modify the installed software, they cannot punish you for "destruction of school property" or similar charge
Perhaps those lusers just need to learn how to properly as a question. Here is an example:
Abbott calling Costello
Costello calls Abbott with some questions about UNIX.
Costello: What is the command that will tell me the revision code of a program?
Abbott: Yes, that's correct.
Costello: No, what is it?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: So, which is the one?
Abbott: No. 'which' is used to find the program.
Costello: Stop this. Who are you?
Abbott: Use 'who am i' not 'who r yoo'. You can also 'finger yoo' to get information about 'yoo'.
Costello: All I want to know is what finds the revision code?
Abbott: Use 'what'.
Costello: That's what I am trying to find out. Isn't that true?
Abbott: No. 'true' gives you 0.
Costello: Which one?
Abbott: 'true' gives you 0. 'which programname'
Costello: Let's get back to my problem. What program? How do I find it?
Abbott: Type 'find / -name it -print' to find 'it'. Type 'what program' to get the revision code.
Costello: I want to find the revision code.
Abbott: You can't 'find revisioncode', you must use 'what program'.
Costello: Which command will do what I need?
Abbott: No. 'which command' will find 'command'.
Costello: I think I understand. Let me write that.
Abbott: You can 'write that' only if 'that' is a user on your system.
Costello: Write what?
Abbott: No. 'write that'. 'what program'.
Costello: Cut that out!
Abbott: Yes. those are valid files for 'cut'. Don't forget the options.
Costello: Do you always do this?
Abbott: 'du' will give you disk usage.
Costello: HELP!
Abbott: 'help' is only used for Source Code Control System (SCCS).
Costello: You make me angry.
Abbott: No, I don't 'make me' angry but I did 'make programname' when I was upset once.
Costello: I don't want to make trouble, so no more.
Abbott: No 'more'? 'which' will help you find 'more'. Every system has 'more'.
Costello: Nice help! I'm confused more now!
Abbott: Understand that since 'help' is such a small program, it is better not to 'nice help'. and 'more now' is not allowed but 'at now' is. Unless of course 'now' is a file name.
Costello: This is almost as confusing as my PC.
Abbott: I didn't know you needed help with 'pc'. Let me get you to the Pascal compiler team.
I've been getting rid of my junk on ebay using same method, all it costs me is a few minutes extra time.
I'm currently on my third laser jet, my first was a laserjet+ (second model made) that I pulled out of barn and cleaned up. a $5 pack of paper and a $12 generic toner off ebay (not like it was still warrentyed and I used it about a year. Gave it away to a local mom & pop restuarant and last time i talked to them they were still on that cartridge.
also, when you printer breaks, check here for parts and instructions
agreed. I live in an area that doesn't have 3G, and while i dislike both carriers, at least verizon has a presence here. AT&T requires I move 70 miles west just to use their phone
A is expensive! B is much more efficient, and costs half as much. C is even more efficient than B - ten times less expensive than A, compared to B.
It's the efficiency I want to know about.
I run diesel that costs more because my truck gets 2.5 times the gas mileage as it's gas version.
I'd gladly pay more for a solar panel that worked better than what is currently available (or alternatively drove down the price of the less efficient models.
But telling me something is better because it costs less is stupid.
The computer you are reading this on likely cost less than $1000, probably less than $500. Roadrunner costs 1-200K as much. Are you going to tell me that your computer is better because it cost less?
Have anyone installed gentoo on it? I would like which CFLAGS to use whit it so to have lightning fast system.
Still compiling the kernel. I'll let you know in 2014.
Have you tried crossdev and distcc? My collection is mostly 1ghz excepting a few machines, but I compile kernels in about a minute using those tools.
Spreading the load out to 49 processors speeds things up
First, I switched to dvorak.
Then if someone asks, i switch to a guest account, using Xwindows and xterm. no DE/WM, nothing else.

Edith Fellowes. She has experience caring for an ugly little boy
That's $640k should be enough.

It's not your money anymore, you gave it to the government.
Perhaps you gave your money to the .gov, but mine was stolen from
me. I have never agreed to pay them a cent, it was all done with
out my consent.

Here's the article from local paper. I live in Klamath, and all I can say is if idiots don't carry a compass, they should stay home.
Oh, and I hesitate to call Klamath “Eastern Oregon”

I am wondering how long before I see the headline "Man arrested for using linux"
Is http://news.slashdot.org/story/09/04/14/193217/College-Police-Think-Using-Linux-Is-Suspicious-Behavior close enough?

I stand corrected. Guns can get you killed.
I'm a bit confused. Exactly what package do I compile to get protection from Linux viruses?
More like a SLAPP

What is it with you KDE fanbois and your personal attacks? We likes our desktop clean, simple, and brown.
We also likes fisshesss, yes we does.
If you want that, why use something as bloated as Gnome? *box or console FTW!
