First of all, what is Napster? It is a way to TRADE a file format called MP3, or Mpeg layer 3. And what is an MP3 exactly? It's not a pirated file by default, its just a regular file format like txt or jpeg. Metallica suing Napster is like me suing the creators of the Internet, ARPANET. Napster has this big bad reputation of being leaders of legal piracy, but all they want to do is distribute a form of media. Lastly, Metallica seems to think that being the leader of the heavy metal music industry means taking peoples' money as opposed to having people listening to their music. On a side note, I personally know several local bands in my area that would be more than thrilled to have their music distributed on Napster.
Although the gap is closing between macintosh computers and Windows computers with advancements like virtual PC and the like, the never-ending holy war of computers seem like it will never end. Microsoft comes out with something new, Mac imitates it, Mac comes out with something new, Microsoft imitates that. But now *nix platforms are getting their share of the scene, and that means a third party on the battle field. Soon programming corporations like Pangea Software will need to make 3 different versions of the same game to satisfy all their customers.
So we have rockets that can lift heavier objects, perhaps even such things as parts for a space station, or extensive search equipment for Mars. Maybe with these we'll be able to finally build large enough platforms in our orbit or on the moon to be self-sufficient.
Hopefully, we won't go bankrupt in getting there. Hopefully, NASA will work on developing more efficient methods to lower the cost, before they spend billions and billions of tax dollars before the price comes down, unlike it did with the earier rockets. Only time can tell.
Those of you out there who use IRC clients such as mIRC, may have noticed that Napster is just an IRC client with its own servers. After all, commands such as/whois and/msg in IRC do the same thing as the commands in Napster's chat rooms, and the downloading/uploading in Napster is the same as the DCC sends and gets of Napster. The only major differences between Napster and IRC are the restriction to Mp3's and the GUI in Napster.
Oh yes, and as a sidenote, Napster is not the only one of it's kind, a program called iMesh is another IRC client with a GUI, but iMesh has 2 major differences; support of audio, video, and still images, and it has fewer users.
