You are correct. I did misstate the S&P credit rating of AIG/Lehman.
To be honest, I do not know what to think of any of the ratings agencies. The UK maintains the highest credit rating even though it's debt to GDP ratio is 151 percent while the US has a debt to GDP ratio of 100 percent. Both nations continue to accrue debt but the United States is a higher risk for defaulting?
I find it difficult to believe their reasoning is sound. The other two ratings agencies, Moodys and Fitch, have no plans to downgrade US debt. Standards and Poors also gave AIG and Lehman Brothers AAA credit ratings up til they crashed and burned. Then there were the mortgage backed derivatives issued the same AAA rating by S&P. The United States does have some serious long term budget problems but the credit downgrade is just political posturing.
I don't think it adds up now either. But in 50 to 70 years I believe may be worth the cost. Global steel consumption is projected to be 1.359 billion metric tons this year and 1.441 billion metric tons in 2012 (source). Emerging economies are investing heavily in infrastructure and this trend will continue for some time. Then what about the next round of emerging economies? I don't claim to be correct but I think it is a likely scenario.
In the short term it may just be a toy for the wealthy but there are profits to be made in space in the long term. The world's appetite for resources such as iron is increasing and there is a limited supply of it on this rock.
Most people have made their own social circles. I mostly keep my work and private life separate. I certainly do not share what happens with my friends with my family either. If this is done properly, it will be nothing more than an extension of what most people do naturally.
President George Washington said the following on tolerance in response to a letter received from Moses Seixas, warden of the Touro Synagogue in Newport, RI.
The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent national gifts. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.
I agree with the sentiment of your post but when one group tolerates another, they are not equals.
I am no Cliff Huxtable but if I wanted to know what my son was doing, I asked him and he told me. He would admit to stealing, starting a fight and other such actions from the age of four because he knew it was important for me to be able to trust him no matter what. If children are going behind their parents' backs to do anything, the parents haven't been responsible.
I think it's quite clear that we are in too deep to just pack up and go. Im sure if we pull out the current standing regime will raise hell on the civilians "just because." In addition, it might give those leaders the balls to try something on our home soil again.
If we packed up and left tomorrow, the current regime wouldn't last six weeks.
"I'm anti-spending and anti-government," crows David, as scooter-bound Janice looks on. "The welfare state is out of control."
"OK," I say. "And what do you do for a living?"
"Me?" he says proudly. "Oh, I'm a property appraiser. Have been my whole life."
I frown. "Are either of you on Medicare?"
Silence: Then Janice, a nice enough woman, it seems, slowly raises her hand, offering a faint smile, as if to say, You got me!
"Let me get this straight," I say to David. "You've been picking up a check from the government for decades, as a tax assessor, and your wife is on Medicare. How can you complain about the welfare state?"
"Well," he says, "there's a lot of people on welfare who don't deserve it. Too many people are living off the government."
"But," I protest, "you live off the government. And have been your whole life!"
"Yeah," he says, "but I don't make very much."
From the second link:
According to this poll, 91% of Tea Partiers want a smaller government with fewer services. Despite this hostility to big government, 62% of Tea Partiers believe that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are worth the cost (apparently no one bothered to tell them that Social Security and Medicare are evil Godless socialist programs).
No matter what the heroes of the Tea Party think or say, the majority of the members believe otherwise. Even a majority of conservatives reject Paul Ryan's budget plan.
So if someone sticks a fork in a toaster and gets electrocuted, does that mean the appliance was poorly designed? No matter how easy something is to use, some idiot will find a way to misuse it.
Now that is funny. I am trying to imagine the defense contractors moving their manufacturing capabilities to China. Where the employees would be making weapons with a gun in their back...
There are doubts about the effectiveness of the UK deficit reduction strategy.
The hacking is for fun.

Hard work is all it takes for a black person to escape poverty? Bullshit.
I realize it just says public figure but public figures do not pass laws.
Our leaders are whiny bastards.
Could this be why people are shooting back?
Just remember to get rid of the dead hooker when she starts giving you lip.
I think the added privacy comes in the ability to segregate content and contacts via Google Circles.
In the past 4 years I have had to replace exactly 2 CFL bulbs. I have been using them exclusively for 5 years.

No, but the police will put a gun to your head while they destroy your phone if you take a photo.

That sounds a lot nicer than chain gangs.

This Tea Party? The same group of people who believes that no one deserves any money from government programs but them?
Why is this modded troll?

Same here. I miss the flipper babies.
