Considering that your average PC is just about one of the worst things you can toss into a landfill, should we really be encouraging people to toss them out even more rapidly than they already do, by making them cheaper?
The main driving force behind waste is making the (sticker) price of everything we consume trivial.
But what if they genuinely developed it in parallel, without hearing about your patent?
How is it fair that they'd have to pay for something they didn't even make use of?
That's a situation where patents directly harm innovation, rather than encourage it.
I've had lots of ideas that I've later found out companies bank on. Whenever I see them, the first thought I have is 'cool. Someone actually did it,' not 'awesome. How can I squeeze some money out of this?'
Yes - you can view this offline. If you can manage to get this to download from their site, you can view the page source, go to the URL of the file (http://action.eff.org/tinseltown/tinsel.swf), then when it finishes downloading, go to File > Save As... (this should work in any browser, I believe..) and then save it to a safe place on your hard disk. Then, when you want to view it, open up your browser, and go to File > Open File...
Of course, if you can't get a connection (as I can't as of this writing), you're out of luck - but that's just how the Internet is structured.. it doesn't matter that this is Flash - if it were any other format, you'd still have to download it initially.
Unfortunately, Flash isn't Free Software (free as in speech and as in GNU). So, I can view Flash animations on this computer (x86, running GNU/Linux), but not on my Powerbook, which also runs GNU/Linux.. Macromedia only releases Flash for *Nix clones as an x86 binary, which cuts out all non-x86 hardware users running an alternate Operating System (or those who don't wish to run non-Free Software).
KB (KiloByte) is base 2! Same with MB, GB, TB, etc. If you want base 10, you'd use kB. This has already been around.. I don't know why we couldn't just use this.
People who care would notice the difference, and the average computer user won't be confused and ask for an explanation of the difference between MiBs and Megs. (none).. it'd help if people didn't casually switch between upper and lower case, but most people assume base 2 for that anyhow, so this would just affect hardware ads, etc., which aren't likely to just sloppily let it go uncapitalized.
Have you see anyone actually post a comment in support of these actions? This one troll, but that's it.
Since I think it's fairly safe to assume most of us here are liberal, I think you'd be more honest with yourself if you realized most of us are very rational indeed.. most of the replies to this article have been about how the poster hardily opposes environmental destruction, and especially SUVs, but how eco-terrorism is digusting a bad choice.
No, that doesn't help visibility. I've been stuck many times right next to an SUV at a stop sign, turning onto a street that becomes a highway in my city, and it's either very dangerous, or forces me to wait a whole lot longer to turn (I have to wait for them to turn, then wait for the traffic to ease up).
And I sure wouldn't buy an SUV if I could afford it. It's so digusting. A lot part of my city is white upper-middle-class, the kind who love obnoxious SUVs, big houses, gated communities, and obsessively cleaning their houses and tending their lawns. I'm getting tired of the luxury class and the "better than others" attitude they seem to carry.
Oh, and boo on eco-terrorism.. I'm very much an environmentalist, and as funny as a burning SUV dealership might be in a movie or cartoon, it's definitely not justified. Change the minds of the people, don't just take away something they'll work to get back.
Which religion (or lack thereof) and denomination (if applicable) to you follow in your everyday life? If elected, how would it affect your actions? Please include examples. Lastly, how do you honestly feel towards those of other faiths (or choice of no faith)?
Thank you. Your honesty and effort is appreciated.
Reminds me of Bill Hicks. "Oh, God! Please stop turning everything into dollar signs."

Then again, this is a slightly different issue.

Tycho as a host name? Could it be that I'm not the only one using a Marathon naming scheme?

Hope you enjoyed my mini-rant right there.

I sure hope it's capable of more than their screenshots suggest.
Honestly, these screenshots make this it look like it's almost on the level of MacPaint or KidPix..

I basically agree with this. I don't think it will become some horribly destructive life-controlling machine.
Though, I know it's not impossible, unless we make sure some people don't let it happen.

That's how I feel, too.
