I know this isn't going to make me many friends here but I really don't get the fascination with non-real-life-women when there are so many real ones.
I figure it's a great thing though, half the world is spending their time online looking at porn while there are so many real women out there that it's bound to have an effect on the chances of those that forego porn and turn their attention to the real women instead:)
As the inventor of live video on the web I think I know what I'm talking about, and it used no plug ins (just multipart/replace encoding). Later versions used javascript to achieve the same effect, still no plug ins needed. Audio was initially done using a small java applet.
XMLHttpRequest is used for 'under water' connections to the server to update a page that is already there, try switching off javascript for a while and see how many websites will break, the majority of them (including the one we are writing all this on) will have a non-js fallback. So, that's definitely not what 'drove the popularity of the internet'. That's just FUD.
TCP/IP, HTTP, XML and to a lesser extent older content protocols such as NNTP, gopher, archie, ftp and telnet are what made the internet as large as it is.
Only when there was sufficient critical mass did we get these 'proprietary protocols' and file formats with all the associated trouble. Read back for a bit in the RFC archive to see just how wrong you really are.
XMLHttpRequest is a classic example of Microsofts embrace and extend strategy, and it is to this day carrying the baggage of that.
http://patmetheny.com/ did the same thing. Which is really dumb, it was one of the best examples of musicians using the internet to stay connected with their fans and now it's borked.
I don't know who modded you insightful but you're full of it.
The last 15 years includes HTML, XML and a host of other protocols/formats that started out about as open as it can possibly get and *THEY* are what drove the enormous growth of the internet.
The measure of that would be to tally how many porn sites use flash. I think the answer will be a very small percentage of the total (but I could be wrong).
Interesting! So, apparently we are able to discriminate between 'perfect symmetry' (and label it for instance artificial) and nature's optimum (say > 95% 100% ?) ?
That's a pretty deep insight really, I wonder if there is embryological machinery that keeps us from becoming 'too symmetrical' ?
I think that plastic surgery is pretty horrible, I think if you think you need a plastic surgeon you really probably need to see a shrink or watch less TV (because that seems to be pretty much coded to give people low self esteem).
Sawing out your eye sockets and gluing them back in at slightly different angle causing all kinds of optical trouble does not seem to be reason enough to fix a minor perceived defect. What's so bad about diverity ? Celebrate the fact that you are uniquely you, and leave the plastic surgery for accident victims.
that was exactly what I was going to write:) But the first guy sort of defeats that rule, he's actually a little broader in the face than the source image.
A simpler rule would be 'add symmetry', mirror the left half of the face (or the right half, flip a coin).
Adding a smile also goes a long way towards making people prettier, in fact a smile really is the best make-up.
Thats certainly possible. But I've been witness several times of people in my surroudings that seem to be totally fascinated by technology and they would do anything to be allowed to 'play', not giving a seconds thought to the consequences of their actions.
jay for scientists without a conscience. I always wonder how big the pile of money or the amount of glory would be for me to change sides.
I like to think I'd rather die than to help projects such as these along, but that's on the days I have food on the table (which fortunately is most of them).
News like this is really making me wish for some kind of ethics oversight for science in general, not just for medicine.
The excuse that there will always be somebody to do the work and that's why you might as well do it doesn't really cut it for me.
he wasn't a threat, he was not positively id'd, nobody looked into it closely enough to correct the -numerous- errors that were made.
It's not every day that an ordinary person going about his ordinary business gets executed in public, and this should definitely be remembered lest it happen again some time soon.
the running away is a lie that has been given *way* too much airtime, it was part of a cover up operation the police started to paper over their fuck up.
It simply IS NOT TRUE. Read the report on the investigation please and do not propagate these lies.
He was never told to stop. He was running to catch his train, which - if you've ever been in the subway - is a pretty common sight.
Well, I've lived in what used to be a police state (Poland) and the excesses there were not on par with what happens in the US and the UK respectively today.
The zomos (the Polish secret police) could learn a thing or two about torture from the folks in Guantanamo bay. I've seen the pics and it wasn't pretty.
Sure, the all out surveillance tech wasn't there, which probably accounts for a lot of the difference, but if Poland was a police state by western definition in the early 80's (the stan wojenny, my polish is extremely rusty) then the US and the UK easily qualify as such today.
That fact that you disagree and then proceed to list a series of proofs (by far not exhaustive) is an interesting item by itself.
You should do a bit more reading about how the state of Israel came to be and how the Palestinians have been shafted by the rest of the Arabs and the Israelis both.
I know *plenty* of Jewish people that do not wish to be associated with what Israel currently stands for (similar to the way many US citizens are not all that happy with the direction their country is taking).
Which is a pity, because your friends are not benefiting from not being called to order when they misbehave.
When I was 20 I had some hope that the controversy surrounding Israel would be resolved within my lifetime, now, about 2 decades later I highly doubt it will be settled in the next 150 years. The lack of reason on both sides of the conflict is really hard to understand, the way in which the US meddles makes it a deadlock until they lose their influence.
I've lived in Canada, and while I can't speak for the armed forces (because I did not meet any) I did run into Canadian police on a few occasions, and they're a mixed bag. The big city officers that I've had contact with were without exception polite, very professional and something to be proud of, small town police much less so to downright disgraceful.
I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the locations or not but it struck me at the time as more than coincidential.

It may be that you've installed the kamikaze option on adblock ;)
(it suicides the browser before you get to view any ads).

That's because there really is only one side in US politics, the one with the money.
As long as TV advertising is the way to get voters this will not change.

It's 'teach', not 'learn'.
fearmongering mode on: But wait until the terrorists use this as a guidance system in their low cost cruise missile!

no tv in this house. But it seems like more and more of the tv crap is making its way in through my net connection.

I salute you, in more ways than one. Nice to see some people have a conscience.
A microsoft paycheck ?
/me raises hand, and that's more than once doing something as simple as driving a car with Canadian plates in the US (Texas, to be specific)
