My god, what planet do you come from? I can't believe that they mod-ed you a score of 4 for this crap.

I'm completely astonished: "Windows, which gets everything right on the first try" -- nice blanket statement. I only wish that my experience in installing windows was like that. Then maybe I would think better of it.

You're completely wrong about They couldn't understand a damn thing. I'm constantly amazed and reassured by the number of people -- young or otherwise -- who adapt to Unix, and frequently on their own. It isn't rocket science, and they figure that out pretty quickly.

Oh, and hey, I'm a babe too. You can call me babe if I can call you WRONG.

  4. Re:MONEY IS THE REASON on Petreley on apt-get vs. RPM · · Score: 1

So do you really think that Red Hat designed 'rpm' for the purpose of making money? That's going a bit far, don't you think? From my point of view (user support) I prefer do have a clear delineation between distribution versions on a system. I *like* the idea of knowing if one of my systems, or someone else's system, is RH 5.2 or RH 7.0. I then know pretty well what I'm dealing with, and what the issues are. I don't have to wonder about software rot (which doesn't just happen on Windows) on a system that has been upgraded ad nauseum since Linus' first child. No sensible support system would accept to support such systems. Even though in principle you should be able to upgrade systems seamlessly, in practice people screw things up, and a clean install of a recent distribution version from time to time is not a bad idea.

  5. saw trojaned site this aft while kernel hunting.. on More trojan horse issues · · Score: 1

I've been gathering the files to 'test drive' the new kernel, following the recommended links in http://www.linuxhq.com/change21.html This afternoon I saw the warnings at the trojaned site while I was browsing for tarballs.

It is unfortunately easy to simply click and download the files when you come from a reference page (for example, linuxhq), without getting a chance to verify the files. Luckily the links are a bit stale..
