    How the Hell is this insiteful? "Open Source it!" is not really a brilliant statment! It won't solve the Windows inter-reliablity problem that caused this issue! Now, open sourcing Windows, or IE or OutLook might allow people to turn those into more funtional programs, but but it won't change Gnutella any. Gnutella is plenty secure, and it's actualy kinda funny to me that after all the warnings about opening VBS from Email, people are purposely downloading them now from Gnutella...

    Right, and Area 51 made me a crack shot. Then of course, I tryed to fire a desert eagle and got laid flat...
    I don't care how good you are w/ the game, you still can't equate that to a real dual, at least not well. It just won't work.
    Besides, I'd like to see a few more people with the disipline and character that most swordsmen (and women) display. Lets face it, even if it you do get good enough to fence from the game, you don't have a very efective weapon of mass distruction. Sword play is a skill, like all martial arts, and isn't likely to create pchycopaths. At the very least, we'll see them coming at us with a $30 toy from Hasbro

    Yes, the concept has proven to have all of those problems, but, as the artical states, those are exactly the issues that this screen tries to address.
    First off, the screen flashes less, theoreticaly helping w/ both headaches and epileptics, not that I recomend this for anyone w/ a history of Epilepsy or migrains. Unfortunatly the veiwing area is damned near impossable to fix, even more so in an LCD. Add to it that this one seems to dim in 3D mode, and you kinda lose that point all together.

    Well, when you look at the real world, you look at what is realisticaly 2 flat images on the cornias of your eyes, and the brain interprates the differance to create a depth of feild for you. So, by making the two images side by side, you see the image on the right, primarily, w/ the right eye, and the left w/ the left. This creates a stereo-scopic effect wich tricks the brain into creating a 3D image from 2 flat ones.

    Maybe so, but you don't have much in the way of distribution, do you... Lets face it, sure, artists may create art for the love of doing so, but it doesn't get the rent payed, and it doesn't get seen or heard by many people.

    With Gnutella et al., they won't have anyone to sue because there's no centralized "enemy" for them to attack.
    There also won't be any reason to continue creating. Lets get real folks, we can say all we want about free speech, better sales and open clustered mp3 linux BS, but what it comes down to is nothing is going to change untill we give it a reason to.
    I think the guys at Oragne Ally may have one of the best ideas so far, but untill we get some more ideas, and allot more suport, we aren't going to see any changes...
    BTW, www.PayLars.com is almost up to $400 in donations...

    More importantly, though, being able to nuke the Pakis is clearly more important that educating and improving the lifestyle of the populace. If you educate them, how will they be dumb enough to go and sit in Kashmir and freeze and be shot at? Geez. Don't you know anything about public policy? Besides, if you give them access to information, you can't keep them from gaining acess to the 50 y/o blue prints for a Nuke. Let's face it, even the US still thrives on the gaps in its education system. Does anyone in the US understand why we still use an electoral college, it's not like that many votes are cast, and we count them all anyway....

    Let's not forget one of the main problems w/ an Internet Cafe, that implies they might have food... I'm thinking that Nutrition needs to be right up there w/ sanitation. But hey, now they can all look up the specs for flush toilets! Yeah, it's good, but not the best thing that could have happened to the contenent.

    especially if they are trying to do something important(fly a plane, disarm a nuclear warhead Or when they are trying to make a phone call, or what ever they happen to be doing...
    I personaly don't spend any good length of time stairing at a screen waiting for the perfect add to come on. I do pretty well at ignoring the adds and TV already, so I don't see these things being verry efective, unless your phone rings to tell you you have an incomming add. Then of course you would toss it into traffic as soon as you could.

    And lets face it, if CDs were reasonably priced people might find more bands that they like. Me, I've bought a few CDs on the past because I liked a song or two, and I took a chance...
    4 out of 5 times, I loose. Then I find a band I've never heard of that my friend has the CD for, I listen and love the whole thing. Why haven't I ever heard of this band? Because the record company hasn't gotten them Air play, because they didn't want to sign the right contract, what ever.
    Now, I get a cool song Via Emial, or on a reuseable disk, listen to it when I get a chance, and make up my own mind before spending the (cheap) $12.99 US for the CD.
    Cheap media, moire sales, trust me on this....

    They left in a `loophole' which basically said `implementation-specific bits can go here'. Microsoft then used that for all their implementation specific details - but didn't document what those details were.
    And, of course, if the standard changes, they don't Have to change with it, they would just be less compliant (which is I'm sure what they would say, never mind the binairy nature of all thing leagal)
    Realisticaly, this will be a shallow victory on its own if they don't comply, though it should make other points easier to prove in the near future....

    Said it all. Is MicroSoft more concerned w/ saving face and staying compliant, or maintaining it's grip. That's really what the whole thing is about.
    Still, who thinks the leagal dept isn't already gearing up to find another loophole to put the windows logo in? There's always something....

    Well, Let's see... The two letter TLD's all belong to countries, so it's not really fair to be upset just because some countries see the benifit of selling un-real estate, AND,
    No one really seems to have kept up the intent of the COM/ORG/NET division, so what the hell's the point. Or do you think /. is non-profit? So, why not just a few more internet area codes for people to pick from? But what's the point if anyone can use them for any reason? It's just a name in the end.

    While I'm not too sure about offering SPAM bounties, I am very much against the idea of automatic bounties for more serious crimes. SPAMmers aren't likely to kill the people who turn them in....

    How do the shark^H^H^H^H^H Lawyers know who does and does not own a copy of the CD's? Or am I wrong that you are alowed to have at least one back up copy of any media that you have bought leagaly?

    While I don't argue that /. has WOnderful interviews to share, they rarely break a story, and just as rarely write their own. I don't say that they aren't damned useful for those of us who can't read all the other sites and fillter out the junk, but to call it journalism is a bit much. I'm not taking away anything from what they do, but lets be honest about this. 2600, for all its ills, is journalism, even HNN, as they write up their own stuff. Us, we quote them, and comment, and occationaly I see a post with journalistic intent, and hopefully those are marked insiteful or informative, rather then the posts that quote the same story.
    On the other hand, I do like the idea of being updated on smaller stories, rather than just running coverage on the DOJ or Amazon.
