In all honesty, just blocking all pron is not going to work. If you are a parent you have a responsibilty and duty to monitor what your children can and cannot see, just like films have certification system and you make an informed decision of what is suitable.
On the otherhand if porn is not blocked and you stumble across some child porn, there should be a better anonymous reporting system, so that you can report it properly which is sadly lacking somewhat. Therefore if you can see porn and come across something blatantly wrong, there is more chance of catching the perpertrators.
Well someone who is a friend of mine in the USA phoned me earlier in the UK about this. He is a dev and tearing his hair out at PayPal. The systems are old and he keeps hitting politics internally. So we just ended up laughing on the phone I said just wait for the dust to settle. Not a lot you can do though, but if you knew how some system admins work in Paypal and mastercard you will be horrified. they even have some windows server 2003.
I have been following these posts and attacks for sometime and truly understand people feel aggrieved on both sides. I cannot condone the attitudes of RIAA, MPAA, IFPI and other organisations "ruthless attitudes" towards some copyright infringers but there has to be a balance here to satisfy both sides. Lets put this into perspective for one moment. On one hand we have the Music and Film Industry moaning and crying about shrinking profits and on the otherhand you have people who are simply poor and cannot really afford to buy music, dvd's, blu-ray and those people inbetween who just rip anything and everything.
Profits are shrinking for these industries, however their "overheads" have dramatically decreased pro-rata, so they are no worse off with the advent of downloadable music, of which the music and film industry does not have to pay for the cost of burning/producing a CD/DVD. Those industries do not need as much staff to run the companies anymore and technology is such, that big studios are no longer needed either, however these people still want to be on the same "Fat Cat" salaries for doing 2 hours work when 20 years ago the same job would have taken them 8-10 hours. It would therefore just be far easier to disband a lot of these organisations that are surplus to requirement and just stick $1.00 on the price of 50 blank CDs and $1.50 on a pack of 50 DVDs and let them argue out the profit share between themselves. Remember if you download an album, you still have to burn the CD that the record company does not pay for. It is your time, electricity, wear and tear on your drive and your cost to buy the blank CD. We can then get rid of these stupid politicians ideas of taxing ISP's coupled with other weird and wonderful useless ideas. Hopefully at that point the music and film industries can shut their festering slits and people can carry on downloading, no more DRM and everyone wins. Is that too much of a simple solution?
Really I have better things to do in life. Hence I am not on facebook twitter etc and do not follow main stream media either. I like/. but that is about it.
Deep Packet Inspection GCHQ has been going on for a while, this is news that will serve the pubic well and "If it is deemed within the public's interest" that allows any law to be pushed through without consent actually. This could also mean mass innoculation remember Swine Flu h1N1, yes it all started as Sars, Bird Flu and other crap. The truth is it is in the publics' best interest to file "Massive freedom of information requests" of who in the government spoke to to who and when those emails were sent. We already know Sky (Murdoch's outfit) has been gathering viewing details for years. Is any of this going to help in a court of law. Guilty by association. I can see riots occuring over this. Remember the Police when Off Duty are Classed as Civillians and others in all security services. (opps) Oh and do not forget that in 10 years time it will be illegal to buy paper without a license that has you DNA linked, Pens and Pencils too. Here we go Revolution!!!!!
So far there is no record of Simmons actually filing any legal suit, and if he did it likely wouldn’t be easy to figure out the identities of anyone responsible for the origination of the attacks. If nothing else, it certainly will be entertaining to see how long both sides can keep this pissing match going.
Anyone for up for a game of PING PONG?
Yes by all means let's genetically alter tree's instead of changing our own behavior! There's just something more than a little wrong with, we can't change our own behavior so lets change the world around us so it can take our abuse more effectively!
I totally agree. Cessation of cutting down rainforests and planting more trees is really the solution along with cutting down on the worlds' population. Mankind has a serious greed complex; "Consume now and pay later". It sounds like our worldly bailed out banking system and yes we are already paying for it. It is just unfortunate whilst part of the population is trying to make good issues, the other half has a "fuck it" No Responsibility attitude.
I also recently (yesterday actually!) opened an old DVD+R (with an HFS volume) from 2002 and rearchived it to a new DVD. It still read perfectly, but it's been stored in a cool dark place, and has been mounted maybe 10 times.
Sounds like my wife; "Stored in a cool dark place and been mounted about 10 times in the last 10 years".

When the military leadership lists "states of interest" which it needs to form plan for military intervention/assistance, you don't start shouting "oh no, facism!" you go "thank goodness someone is doing their job."
What good is a military that isn't prepared for when it's needed?

I will make an annoucement soon on Flux Radio http://www.fluxradio.org/ Possibly the inner workings of Peter Mandleson and his "FangTastic" dinners with record label bosses. The extranet is about extra portions of artists cash.
Ignore this guy. I will happily sell you a first-class seat on my spaceship for $100,000. Cash or money-order only, please.
I have jumped out of aircraft which is fun and done many dangerous things in forces, but I did once get taken up by my friend from the RAF Royal Air Force. I vomited like never before and my head felt like it went through my arsehole. Therefore riding a Sky Rocket is not advisable, I bet someone in China would attach you to a firework to get in to space for $20,000. The only issue is not going up, but is coming down.

Terrorists are quite often ill equipped and "Blowing things up", or oneself for that matter "Suicide Bombers" is classed as just minor disruption or diversion. A lot of people involved in terrorist activities use very low tech solutions, but there is an evolution in the pipeline like "Breast Implants" to blow up more planes. If he wanted a green home he should have built and Earth Ship. He could have learn't quite a lot off Michael Reynolds and for those who have not seen this film http://www.garbagewarrior.com/about.html it is really quite interesting for those eco-warriors out there.
I am a very private person when it comes to personal information and finances, but I worry very little about what we traditionally think of as identity theft. I am, however, extremely concerned about the threat posed by requiring citizens to do business with health insurance companies, and associating that with a tax return and the IRS. I don't want medical providers to know my financial information, and they should not be able to ask for, obtain or store social security numbers. There is no more serious financial security threat that I can think of right now than forcing me to do business with anything related to the medical industry, or having to use medical care where it is a commodity that we are to avail ourselves of without knowing the price ahead of time. Never mind that a diagnosis or successful treatment might not come - knowing that we are giving blanket permission to be charged *whatever* seems rather foolhardy to me.
I am British, however enter dialogue with people in the USA on a daily basis either on the phone or IRC. The fear of data loss is quite huge and more recently a friend from Juniper Networks who had some issues which I helped resolve with data recovery was appreciated. Really there are only a few solutions, to keep yourself secure. 1, Shred all paper and burn it. 2, Encrypt everything (Not Windows Bit Locker as that is Windows 7 Spy) try TrueCrypt or 256 AES. 3, Do not allow anyone to use your computer no matter what. 4, Turn off all wireless (Some nice hacks can be done from cellphones or even through power cables, 5, Remember a speaker can be used as a microphone in reverse and blue tooth is about as secure are my 96 year old grandma's underwear. 6, Cron Jobs, 7, Just buy a good quality flash drive and put everything on it (Encrypted of course), 8, Install a secondary hard drive, 9, turn off file and print sharing, Windows 7 Homegroup is easily exploitable, 10, Never use a third party a Third party online backup service (all your base belong to US) your data is not your own despite claims it is. 12, Realise your bookmarks and contacts are more important than your O/S, 13, Eat LSO for breakfast, 14, Use wireshark, snort & acid 15, Don't be greedy, those 419 scams are awesome. 16, and on and on and Ariston..... you get the idea.... just do not be an idiot, common sense is all it takes. Privacy is your right, but as we know in the BIG BROTHER scheme of things one does not have much privacy including your shopping habits/banking etc.
Finally good luck!!!
My money is already stolen if I record the sound of my own band on my own CD. I don't need another theft if I want to let someone hear my songs on the net. Off course, the stolen money should go to the rights holder, but as a rights holder to my own songs, I never saw even a cent from it. And my songs have been played in public and broadcasted.
I feel for you. I own an internet radio station and totally support what people release under the Creative Commons license. http://www.creativecommons.org/ I refuse to pay the PPS fees and have had many arguements even with my own music just like yourself so please do not worry about it too much.
My advice when it comes around to copyright issues for your own music; is take a leaf out of my book. Mail the master copy or the CD of your work to yourself along with a letter to yourself by Royal Mail signed for Special Delivery £5.95. When it arrives never open it, keep the signed for ticket and just store it, if you ever up in court over trivial issues, you must present the envelope along with the signed for ticket for forensic evaluation and that it has never been opened and only the judge can open in in a legal capacity.
Who wins the case? You do!
Good Luck!
Polygraphs and drug dog are tools. When used properly, by honest and upright law enforcement officers (yes, they exist), they can be useful in ascertaining the truth and protecting the innocent. It's when the officers are not honest that things get hairy.
For example, polygraphs can be used to obtain false confessions. http://www.hulu.com/watch/155840/abc-2020-fri-jun-11-2010 Apparently, following hours and hours of intense "questioning", even innocent people will fail the polygraph. Add several more hours of interrogation and many people are ready to confess...
I feel sorry for most cops. For some, it's a calling. For others, it's an excuse to abuse power. For most, it's just a job. How would you like to work a job where you have to deal with people who despise you all day long. It's not a good excuse, but there is a reason why they become clique-ish and distrusting.
Actually if you are Special Forces trained, a polygraph means nothing. "It is only a state of mind". Besides a polygraph test can be manipulated and often is. If you are not in a sheilded room, like those where you get an MRI scan or X-Ray in hospitals, just even the slightest electrical interference can throw up false positives.
The same thing appilies with cabling having to be double sheilded and oxygen free. There can be lots of arguements and variables involved add infinitum.
Personally, I feel a polygragh is just a tool to justify unjust justice. Good hard interrogation brings out the truth eventually... no need for water-boarding, burning with hot irons, electric shock treatment etc.

Do I have to reiterate this or have the paost deleted all over again? Maybe because one of the staffers of slashdot is Jewish.
I have stated this for the past Twenty Years and I will reiterate this all over again. You cannot have a fair trial without a Jury of IT experts. Even the Judge cannot Judge properly if he is not an IT expert. How do you expect a fair trial? Well you just do not do you? it is fucking pathetic and a travesty when people on the Jury's expertise is Windows, Internet Explorer, MSN/Windows Live and cannot even secure their own systems that are full of frigging malware and spyware.
Seriously I am furious, and I have earned the right to protest about this since using computers since 1978. If I were the laywer, I would purely appeal this conviction based on the fact "The jury were not able to make a rational decision as they could not comprehend the evidence in hand".
It will be quite easy to pressurise the prosecution lawyer into a corner, the judge, jury and DA with some simple questions of what is an IP or what is the IP address of The District Attorney's website then DNS and Nameservers.
You see these people cannot answer these questions, let alone know how to set up RDNS, MX records etc. I feel most of you are being unfair regarding this trial and pre-judging like a "kangaroo court" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo_court It is a friggin mess. Just put yourself in this guys shoes for one moment, you will realise if it were you in the dock, you would feel aggrevied. I do not care if this post escalates my karma to bad, but what do you expect?/MOTD Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers. Or as Alan Roberts always told me RSM from Queens Lancashire Regiment; Never under estimate stupid people in government, 80% of them are corrupt with invested interests, put them on the frontline as fighting soldiers and see who is truly brave! R.I.P AR RSM you will be missed but not forgotten =)

I do not care if this post escalates my karma to bad, but what do you expect? /MOTD Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
