Polygraphs are like drug dogs. They are used to provide a facade (meaning fake) probable cause...

You seem to be basing your assessment on the "TV Cop show" version of the polygraph, where they issue accusations at the suspect, "Did you kill Bob Smith!" in a manner that even an innocent suspect might react.

Actually they can be very effective if the test is constructed correctly. Use of the guilty knowledge test is one example.

In this type of test, they simply give the suspect a series of choices like, "Did you shoot Bob Smith with a .38?", "Did you shoot Bob Smith with a .45?", "Did you shoot Bob Smith with a 9mm?" and so on.

While a truly guilty suspect might react to the correct weapon; an innocent suspect, even if they are stressed, wouldn't react any more to the right weapon than the wrong one; and are eliminated. This even can eliminate the "compulsive confessors" that can tie up valuable investigative time.

    A well reasoned response Sir,

I did not state my position quite clearly last post.

Higher resolution is better. If someone else has a higher resolution display, that's better. However, this assumes that the accompanying software, display rivers, firmware, anti-aliasing, etc. is optimized to that resolution.

So, it's not about 'balance' it's about maximizing the resolution and the drivers.

    You expressed this perfectly:

Higher resolution is better when you have content capable of taking advantage of it and when it can be displayed without distortion and misalignment.

Correct; without specifying the distance from your eye to the screen, the resolution 'claim' doesn't mean anything (and is b.s.)

Now, don't ask me why a lower ppi is good for images, doesn't make sense to me. I just wanted to bring the whole paragraph into play here.

    You are correct, sir...

This is just marketing hype. It's like saying, "Any car that gets worse gas mileage than ours is ruining the environment, and, er, any car that gets better gas mileage than ours will put all the hard working people at the oil companies out of work. So, our car is the best."

Higher resolution is better. If someone else has a higher resolution display, that's better. If you move it farther away, the angular resolution increases; the size decreases.

I've always enjoyed the Unreal franchise mods and TCs. Having started with modding "Duke" (limited to 2.5-D/sprites) it was great to have real 3-D in UT to mess with.

Epic has always supported modding on UT - and even has their "Make something Unreal" contest. A lot of great and creative mods came out of this like: "Red Orchestra" (WWII); "Tactical Operations," "Neotokyo," "Frag Ops," & "Strike Force" (contemporary weapons); and "AirBuccaneers" (a steam-punk, hot-air balloons and cannons mod!)

However, I feel like the "golden age" of UT mods has passed, back with UT-2004. There was a long hiatus before UT-3 came out, and a lot of gamers and modders moved on, and there was also the steeper learning curve to the UT-3 editor.

No: "...The main object to be desired in expanding copyright protection accorded to music has been to give the composer an adequate return for the value of his composition."

The point being: think of your favorite movie. Now, imagine that that film cast and crew were told, "You can write, shoot, act, edit that movie if you want to; but nobody will here will get paid for any of their work."

Do you really think that all 350 people would all say, "Yeah! I don't mind working for the next 8 months for nothing! I don't have to worry about food or rent or anything!" ?

    Kinda doubt it.

So they would all wander off and get paying jobs - and you would not have that great movie to enjoy.

    Well put Sir!

A lot of these excuses for theft:
    "I hate watching the previews."
"I have to drive all the way to the mall to buy it."
    "It's too expensive."
    are only justifications to steal.

I suppose I could say, "Well, I really like the new Bentley, but since they've overpriced it, I'm justified in stealing one out of the showroom."

Making a good movie or a song takes finite work and money. The only way those artists and companies will have money to make their next good movie or song, is if you (and everyone else who enjoys that movie or song) buys it.

If you think a movie is overpriced, then don't buy it (and don't steal it.) If enough people don't buy it, prices will come down. But claiming that: "it's OK to steal it because it costs more than you care to pay," is still theft.
