My point wasn't that Slashdot would necessarily get hit with this, now. My point was that it's quite unprofessional for Slashdot to do something like this. Added to all the misspellings, incorrect stories, and everything, this may seem insignificant, but hey, I'm just trying to improve Slashdot.
If you read the article, then you saw that what TonyPyGarthno submitted was essentially the first paragraph of the article. And plenty of times Slashdot has sufficed themselves with a blurb like "TonyPyGarthno pointed us towards an article..." without actually quoting the person that submitted the article.
Sen. Hatch Warns Labels: Don't Make Me Come Spank You Posted by jamie on 03:45 PM July 12th, 2000 from the captain-of-industry-meets-corporal-punishment dept. TonyPyGarthno writes "Facing a veritable who's who of the music-copyright wars, Chairman Hatch threatened -- in surprisingly direct terms -- to force the music labels and publishers, by legislation, to make their content digitally available for a standard fee if the record business continued to ensnarl e-music with lawsuits. As a capper, Hatch suggested that Congress might even go so far as to offer its own comprehensive definition of 'fair use' to hasten the arrival of paid digital music -- an action that would have implications far beyond music. The full story."
The way that's worded makes it sound like those are TonyPyGarthno's own words. Watch for plaguarism, Slashdot...
It was in response to a person. Most top- level copy/pastes should be marked down. I sorta disagree with a +5, a +3 would have been more appropriate, but hey, I'm not complaining.
Exactly. Battery life doesn't mean that much to me right now since I need to plug in the ethernet jack anyway, another cable doesn't make much of a difference. But when I get around to hooking up a Wireless LAN, I'd want to be completely wireless -- no power cable then. If these laptops are truly 8 hours on a single battery, I'd get a second battery and never have to worry about being plugged in again.
By the way, I have a 600E as well, and the battery life is horrible for me too. If these Transmeta laptops weren't coming, I'd take a long hard look at iBooks.
Perhaps not reading the article is why you haven't seen this question answered?
Those frustrations are weight and battery life, he said. "Frustration studies" done by IBM have shown that users want a notebook weighing about 3 pounds, with eight hours or more battery life, he said.
"If we can do that, we'll bring it out in the fall," Suarez said. "We're pretty confident that we can get close to that eight-hour mark."
The point is, damn near everyone has a CD drive. Very very few people have minidisc drives hooked up to their computers. They're pushing what will sell more cameras. I for one wouldn't buy their camera if they just had minidiscs.
On the fourth page, they say than an "expander donut" (check the image) will be available.
In fact, virtually any CD drive out there can physically handle the 77mm CD size, including the new slot-loading iMacs! (Emphasis on the latter, because we really didn't think this would be the case, until we checked the specs.
Uhmm. I'll play videogames when I want to fire a plasma rifle at stinky aliens and start wars with other countries; things I can't do in real life.
Psshtt, where *I* come from, it's not that uncommon to go out back with your plasma rifle and whip some alien ass. As for war with other countries, is it that hard to declare war on some 3rd world country, like say, Canada?

What I don't get is why people take such offense at those comments. The only ones that truly tick me off are the goatse.cx links... A lot of the time, the funniest comments on Slashdot are from people like osm, and his infatuation with Natalie Portman is quite amusing. 1. Moderation could use some updates. Stuff that's been suggested at sid=moderation.. but not a complete overhaul.
2. I can't stand how I'm *told* that somethings funny. It's somewhat demeaning, like a laugh track. But it's somewhat of a necessary evil. People need to filter out comments.

Did you see "Gone In 60 Seconds"? There was a part in it where one of the car thieves glued Elvis' fingerprints over his own...

That's Bell Atlantic Mobile & PrimeCo, not MCI/Sprint.
