Heh, it's worse than that. The BIOS could potentionally (I think) force an icon to appear in the video buffer somewhere, to hell w/ what OS you're running. Not sure that'd work out well for them, but it's a possibility, and it would suck. Imagine in the upper-right a constantly changing icon telling you to visit AOL...
Perhaps Gnome isn't all that stable, I don't know, I don't use it very much, but E in and of itself is very stable from my experiance. I've had no problems w/ any of the released versions, and while ON OCCATION the CVS versions I pick up are unstable, in general they're pretty good, and that's damn impressive considering they're CVS. I wouldn't suggest CVS for anyone not interested in debugging and playing w/ funny errors though, but then, that's CVS...
I believe it's more a society thing than an availibility of guns thing. while I was in Europe for a little while I always kind of got the impression that everyone was somewhat more mature regarding, mostly, sex, guns and education. I suspect that even were guns outlawed in the US people who wanted to do such things as these would get them anyway.
I disagree with simple regard to the part about if she is hurt it is not consensual. There are those out there that enjoy a little pain along with the pleasure, and personally I have nothing against them provided it is all consensual. Both sides need to agree to how far they want to go and what they want to do, and that should be done before-hand. In general I've found it to not be a problem, though if you're that concerned, and don't feel you can trust your potential partner enough, then you shouldn't be doing such things with them anyway....
As strange as this may sound, I actaully don't mind talking to people about their lives. Esp. if it in turns helps them out to get some of it off their chest, since they're able to talk to someone about it. Perhaps this is strange, but in general I like to help people, even if all I can do is lend an ear. Perhaps I should be a shrink, or perhaps I just need one....:)
Ah, but this is exactly not the case. Online, one can much more easily fake who and what they are. They can then not show who they truely are until you meet them, at which point it is quite probably too late to be able to do anything about it.
This is just plain wrong. It's also idiotic. The criminals won't play by the rules, and they'd have a very nice target to shoot at, this lovely warehouse of all these keys...
Blech. I (and most of us I believe) aren't looking to just be better than NT, why be so AMAZINGLY short-sighted? We're looking to be the best we CAN be, which is alot more than just better than NT. Not all of us are just microsoft haters. Also, this hardly seems a distribution issue, but more a library/kernel issue. There are only two libraries in general to be concerned about, libc5 and glibc2. There are two kernels to be concerned about, 2.0.x and 2.2.x (I realize there are obviously subtle differences in each release, but those generally don't affect what the world sees). This doesn't seem all that bad as I suspect in the future libc5 will phase out (Assuming glibc2 becomes more stable and such), as will 2.0.x, as 2.2.x becomes more stable and accepted. This may take 6-12 months, or maybe even a year or two, but it'll happen.
