If you dont count forests , mountains and deserts and only count arable land US and India are the same size (50% of us is Alaska).
India has 4 times US population so its dense but not as dense as France, Japan,UK , China.
No old world nation will have a low density like new world nations.
India also has a climate which allows 3-4 crops a year so the food growing potential is higher than US (India exports food)

  2. Indian Market on Mass Production of iPhones To Start In India · · Score: 2

This production is for the Indian Market not for export. Indian govt was getting worried as it has a large trade deficit and the largest item on it is electronics (even more than oil) so they were pushing manufacturers to manufacture in India instead of importing fully built units. Parts will still come from Japan, China,USA,Korea, Taiwan and UK as for other iPhones but having it being manufactured in India does reduce the import bill substantially. As a plus side if Apple wants to set up Apple stores in India , 51% of the goods sold in those stores need to be made in India (thats the standard rule for single brand retail in India) and having Indian made iPhones makes it easy to hit that %age

India also manufactures ICs and chips for electronics like TVs etc. It does not have a CPU fab though the govt is trying to get Intel or AMD to set one up. Lot of the VLSI design work for both is already done in India.

The Japanese do a lot of this dual use shit. Their oil tankers are built with compartments which means they can easily be turned into aircraft carriers. They have a ton of nuclear plants which can let them make a nuke in 6 months if they decide to. Their satellite launch program is easily modified to an ICBM.

  15. Could they have extended flaps to switch of MCAS without switching off electric trim or were they too fast for flaps.
BTW on the NG you can switch off autopilot input to electric trim without switching off the electric trim. In the Max if you want to switch off MCAS you have to switch off electric trim
This malfunction would have been much easier to handle if there had been a dedicated MCAS switch off button. Hit the MCAS switch off and then use the manual electric trim switches to trim back to normal.
How did the Max and NG get a same type rating?

  16. Let me restate what I meant. In my opinion MCAS should not engage below a certain altitude as a nose down attitude is dangerous if you dont have altitude to play with. The risk of stall (and there is a stick shaker to let pilots know) is less than of a nosedive into terrain.

  17. 6 Minutes is when they crashed. the problem happened even sooner.

  18. The AD which went out after the Lion Air Crash said disable the MCAS using cutoff switches. What it did not consider is that if the plane is already nose down then the aerodynamic forces are too strong to use the manual wheels to make it nose up. The AD should have specified use your electric trim yoke switches to make the trim up and then cut out the electric trim so MCAS cannot make it nose down again.
Also why is the MCAS triggering 6 minutes into a flight. Takeoff by definition is close to stall. It should be off during takeoff. If this plane cannot takeoff without MCAS then this plane is not safe. This is not a fighter jet where the pilot can eject if the software screws up or the plane goes unstable.

  19. According to most projections Africa, India, Australia benefit from a hotter and rainier world while Europe freezes into a tundra.
The climate refugees will be going from Europe to Africa not the other way so its in Europe's interest to promote a border free world NOW while the flow is still towards Europe.
Similarly in NorthAM - In the West Alaska and British Columbia become nice while the North East freezes. East Coast folks better start planning by buying vacation homes in Cancun and learning Spanish (We Californians already speak Spanish)

  20. A hotter world means more rains. Africa's problem is not that its too hot. Its that large portions of it are desert. More rains means the Sahara greens.

The world currently is too cold. There really is no place where a human cannot survive due to tthe heat whereas there are a ton of places which are too cold to survive. A hotter world means more livable places.
Hot places will not get hotter due to the feedback loop of more rain but cold places will get hotter.
All scientists agree the poles will warm up much more than the equator.

Hotter means more evaporation from the oceans and more rain so the dry areas dont stay dry.
The reason California is so dry is that the water off California is too cold to generate rainclouds and we need rainclouds created in Hawaii for our rain.
As the oceans get warmer, California will also get more rains from rainclouds generated locally.
