That's an urban legend. Fact is since they cut down on parts, they make about $20 per Playstation sold, and about $7-8 for every game. Yes, they still end up making the majority of their money off of games the way Gillette makes their money off of razors. But I thought you might want to know.
We all had Family Circus, we still do

Family Circus was just one of those things I glanced at in the newspaper simply because it was embedded among all the other comics, like Mary Worth and Broomhilda. Really, I never thought it was good enough to get 5 stars on Amazon or even memorable enough to be put down on in Slashdot. It wasn't bad, it was just exceedingly mediocre.
I see AOL and Netscape together in 1st place for the Top 100. Is that combining the hits to AOL and Netscape (and for all the other sites where there's several websites in one ranking)
If so, that's kinda lame. They should separate all domain names and rank them separately, shouldn't they?
Option 1: Expand the vodka market. Build a Russian worldwide monopoly of distilled liquor. Option 2: Invest in the Russian mafia. Option 3: Fund processor R&D. Encourage growth of a tech economy.
Doesn't sound too hard does it? Govt funding is a way to push important technologies that might never get off the ground otherwise. How do you think the internet came about?

Remember Radius? They became Digital Origin after the Mac market collapsed a few years ago. A slowly dying Broderbund split their gaming division into Red Orb, and tried to reserve the "Broderbund" name for non-gaming software before they were eaten up. It's kinda like buying a porsche and dyeing your hair when you hit 50.
It's got a single chubby screw in the back you can take off with your fingers, and the side panel came off. As far as PC cases go, this was a lot more convenient than the standard OEM six-scewer. Still, it's not as convenient as the G3's case, since popping off the side panel still required a little force and the motherboard was still buried behind all the device bays.
There was a company named Infinital that originally developed that computer, and it was called the One while it was over there. Then they suddenly canceled it and I guess someone else picked up the rights tothe product. Still, getting a Pentium MMX for $1500 is obscene.
I dunno, what use is a flexible codec if Minidisc is unable to play them? For playing ATRAC encoded songs on my computer then? The reason why MP3 is flourishing over superior codecs like VQF is that the standard is free for anyone to mess with. I like being able to make MP3's on my computer at any bitrate on any of a variety of encoders and being able to play them back on my Mac at work, my friend's Linux box or my Windows box at home (with several players to choose from on each computer). The spice of life.
Actually, Sony's memory sticks have been on sale for a few months, maybe longer than a year. It's not exactly vaporware, although yeah, they're trying to use proprietary-pushing techniques learned from the Microsoft Academy of Proprietary Formats.
The article says that the new Sony thing isn't going to play MP3s, and Sony doesn't have plans to make any MP3 products at all. It's probably gonna use some new SDMI chain-and-shackle music format, maybe MP4
I'd like to see the butt they pulled those numbers out of. Still, with a boss as cool as mine, I'm probably going to be one of the people in line Wednesday. =)
Being tracked? Nothing wrong with it. There's a couple differences between being tracked by Slashdot and being tracked by Microsoft. First, being tracked by Slashdot means that you get benefits, such as being able to customize out lamers. Of course, if your name is First Post, this is not a good thing. Secondly, the info stays confidential. Can you spell GUID? I can't speak for everyone else, but when you believe in God, you get used to the idea that someone's watching you 24/7 and rather enjoy it. In the case of Slashdot, as long as Rob or Hemos don't sell our emails to getrichquick.com, I'm cool with it.
They're working on a Linux version of AudioCatalyst 2.0
Go to Macintouch and scroll down 3/4 of the way.
I grew up thinking that, but now all the news stories covering this are saying it was Matsushita. Hmm...
Are you suggesting CD's have better sound quality than LP?!! Ridiculous!

Started Going Intel
That you even got a score of 1.
Yamaha's, I do believe. Therefore players and encoders are much more scarce.
Ahh, they're going to let outside developers work on Microsoft's website.

Who says MS can't come up with something by themselves?
Apple and Microsoft settled that for an undisclosed sum a loooong time ago. And as I understand it, they settled for waaaaay more than $150 million.

Atrac compresses 5:1, not 10:1, nowhere near 128kb MP3, which is 11:1 Where did you get your numbers?

Smokes. How much is this sucker? Oh yeah, if I have to ask, that means I can't afford it.
