So, the forces your car has to overcome are drag and frictional forces.
Drag can be approximated, but I don't have the equations in from of me. Drag = f(cross-section, velocity).. but it neglects the actual shape of the car, so is not very accurate.
Frictional forces are another monster and can only be determined expirementally. This may be able to be done by some sort of home-made dyno while the car is in neutral, but not the way you have done it...
From that point, you could calculate your mpg and your drivetrain efficiency at that given speed.
Would you give up a $600+ plane ticket because of a slight fever, when the chance of having H1N1 is actually quite low? Put yourself in their situation when nobody is refunding your ticket price and you'll see my point.
Should it be the airlines responsibility to refund all tickets in case of contagious illness? Debatable...
The point is, are we, as consumers, willing to pay that cost of insurance to reduce the chance of becoming sick from a plane flight? Probably not.. That's the risk of travelling that we have all accepted for some time. If you're bubble-boy, stay your ass at home, because you would be complaining if you had to pay a mandatory cancellation insurance fee as well...
Think about the implications of couples decided to only have male babies for any reason, and there are many: Males statistically get paid more, more athletic, CHINA, etc. etc.
We could have an extremely lopsided society full of sexually frustrated males. That compounded with penis envy and more competition in the field of computer science could mean terrible wars.
Also, it may force many to become homosexual, and that would anger God and the republicans. We'd all be smited.
But in all seriousness, the socialogical impacts could be profoundly negative, in ways not even imagined, if this practice was widely adopted. Fulling with nature on this fundamental social level could really screw things up.
