    GPL Software is allowed in the app store. But that won't do anything if the application owner doesn't want it there.

    You should tell the VLC devs that. It's not apple's decision if a Developer stops distributing his app.

    The GPL has nothing in it's text that requires a product to be distributed via multiple channels. Hell, it doesn't even REQUIRE redistribution of the product!

    It doesn't matter where a company is, only where the patent is registered. And in many of the civilized countries on this planet, there's no such things as software patents.

    The encoder of course is a huge difference, but in this case, even the h.264 format is superior to VP8. There's an interesting and often referred to article that compares the specification directly: http://x264dev.multimedia.cx/?p=377.

    That guy didn't even use a proper h.264 encoder and proper h.264 settings. He used JPEG to store the resulting images. His "comparison" is borderline worthless. If you want to read a real comparison between the codecs, check out http://x264dev.multimedia.cx/?p=377.

    It's not the lack of recognition that lead to conflict, it's the fact that israel was founded at all (in the place it was founded in). They could have picked a spot that is not surrounded by a bunch of theocratical or strongly religious countries, on the holy grounds of that religion...

    There is no single payer system. If the government or the health insurance company doesn't want to pay for a potentially useless and expensive procedure, just pay for it yourself. You can do that even with socialized health care.

    How is that NOT his fault? He is a sentient being, so he is responsible for his actions. Just because there were morons who voted for him, should he get a card blanch and immunity from law?

    Unfortunately, fosil fuels are not an energy source, they are an energy carrier. Just like batteries, liquid hydrogen and many other means of storing energy. The only energy source in the system earth is the sun.

    Just because they have been elected by idiots, politicians should still not have the right to stay blameless for their own actions. Just as "I just followed orders" is not a valid excuse, "I was just elected" should not be one either.

    mplayer, the open source movie player, offers superior movie playback performance than any other player on OS X, including but not limited to flash. It does not use any private API.

    Many parts of apple's API are not proprietary: Look at OpenAL, OpenGL, OpenCL. Others are proprietary (Cocoa/Core).
    Between a flash app and an apple app, both apps are closed. They run on one closed system. But at least apple's closed systems is partially open... (I heard that flash was apparently also opened a bit recently... but I haven't seen any result from that yet)
