If I choose to not look at a billboard am I stealing from the advertiser ? If I choose to not read my junk mail am I stealing from the people who sent it to me ? Short answer, no. At the end of the day this is advertising, where someone pays for their message to be placed where you could see it and may look at it. If you choose to not look or prevent yourself from seeing it that is your own free will. The only exception is where you have entered into a contract where viewing of the advertising is required.
Seriously, how did this make the headlines ? All it does is encourage people to flame it. Pretty much for as long as computers have been useful there have been other people interested in stopping them from being useful. It's not really something to celebrate.
I will admit I've had more than one headache with the financial arm of the company. It's all clerical errors that are blamed on "computer problems" Aside from the increased administration involved they tend to work out more in my favour though as the credit terms don't kick in until they issue a correct invoice which means the money spends more time in my bank account:) Seriously though there is nothing that irks me more than some administrative drone blaming the problem on the computer. More often than not it's the human element that's failing. If it was a computer problem Dell are more than capable of fixing it.
Am I the only one who finds Dell support better than other vendors ?
I've actually migrated large accounts from HP, IBM & Fujitsu to Dell because of the lack of support from those vendors. I know it is different for individual users but for large businesses all of my support is provided by native English speakers in the same country as me. On rare occasions you will get an engineer that is 'lacking' but most of the time it's someone who can understand what you are saying and will either identify the problem or book the service call if you've already done the technical troubleshooting.
Would people stop ranting on about this story ? So Dell are recalling a bunch of batteries that were shipped with their machines because the company that they subcontracted, SONY, have admitted that there may be flaws, so what, Dell are doing the responsible thing. I have yet to see any statement from Lenovo or HP that they are recalling batteries which they have also subcontracted out to SONY ?
I guess it boils down to who you would prefer to be: 1. Aware that things do not always work and accept reasonable measures to remedy them. 2. Be blissfully unaware and get burned (literally).
BTW before anybody comments, I don't work for Dell but have and do purchase equipment from Dell,Hp,Lenovo and Sony.
Wonder how this affects any of the current cases against microsoft. If their argument that they can't disclose source in the interests of national security then how can they give it away to another nation which has the potential to be an unfriendly nuclear power ?

I'm also interested in a source on the vote of no confidence. While again I would not be particularly opposed to it I do feel my spidey sense tingling
Which is better, being blissfully ignorant of a problem or being warned and given the information to negate it ?
