is there any actual GP-GPU software out there that isn't for black hats?
Sure, libraries interesting for the High-performance computing community (BLAS, LAPACK, FFTW, etc) have been or are being ported to GPUs. Several molecular dynamics packages (say, Amber 11) already use clusters of GPUs. Hard-core visualization software (that renders huge molecules via raycasting in realtime) uses GPUs.
the money couldn't be better spent adding more DDR3 RAM to the processor and letting it cache the drive (with the obvious options and benefits that brings).
The catch is that this RAM cache is lost upon reboot and you have to populate it anew. With the SSD approach you get (at least in theory) faster boot times because the files are there already.
There must be some huge potential markets that just don't seem to come to mind for me...
High-performance computing. It's the like the vector computers of the late '70's-early '80s all over again, plus now you have the comfort of high-level code running on a "usual" CPU and only the computationally intensive tasks offloaded to the GPU. The basic algorithms (FFTs, linear algebra) have already been ported.
I think the stall warnings were going on and off again, depending on whether the system thought the speed readings were invalid. Perhaps the pilots then assumed the stall warnings to be bogus.
Can't comment on that, you link didn't make it through.
A bit better on transparency, but still below most proper European countries.
So pretty true, I'd say.
Well, if I count correctly it's #19 out of #45 in Europe.
Below most proper European countries? Probably right, for some values of "proper". Sure, that's not impressive, but it's not "very low on European scale", right?
I actually am Polish and I can tell you (subjectively) that compared to what happens nearby (Ukraine, Belarus) we're better off. Even the Czechs, which are a more sensible country scored worse on that list.
I miss Turbo Debugger for the 80286, where you could use memory breakpoints and they "just worked" and nedit (I think it was the Norton Editor) -- where you could search and replace special characters. Thank goodness we have FAR and mc to replace nc.
Native Americans immigrated from Asia what, thirty thousand years ago? Yet they're not a different species from Africans or Europeans; not much different at all from any other race.
Yes, but did they have different gravity in America?

Rebuttal of the "proof" here: http://mathlesstraveled.com/2011/06/04/the-collatz-conjecture-is-safe-for-now/
I had testicular cancer last year, and my phone spends a lot more time in my jacket or pants pocket than it does up against my head.
Your first-hand experience is appreciated, however with a sample size of N=1, you're not proving much, statistics-wise.

During the year of the desktop in particular... I mean, sheesh...

Doing business? 70th place, just behind Namibia. Way ahead of Greece, though - what a surprise.

They can say whatever they like in panels, if there is no concerte decisions and laws to bring those promises to action.
True.
The fact that Poland is an ex-Soviet state
False. A satelite at most.
that ranks very low, even on European scale, in Economic and Political freedoms and corruption
False.
does not raise my optimism either.
Mine either.
bring it down and cause data lass.
I'm a lad, you insensitive clod!

Good to see the efforts towards backward compatibility, I often wondered why punchcard support was lacking in previous releases.
I'm not abdicating getting rid of CDs
You are a ruler renouncing your office while disposing of your CD collection? I must admit it's hard to imagine.
If nobody every tried anything new, we would still be stuck with computers controlled by rewiring them physically
And that would be bad how?
Statistically speaking, horny geeks everywhere choose Rosie Palm and her Five Sisters, so they don't mind either way.
verson-number-wise?
But what I really want to know is...
How do fucking magnets work?
Or even usual magnets, for what it's worth.
At least it started to compile, though.

How about from W, through S, to H.
whenever two WIMPs meet up in space, they annihilate each other
I'm trying to picture this in my head, and failing.
acid is not practicable. Never mind the pub quiz.
Try pausing the movie in a theater to go for a piss or to re-fill and hit the bong.
Then I removed the RAM to bring it down to 256k, and it still ran decently (for single tasking).
That's pretty weird, even Windows 2.0 did not run in 256k of RAM.
