  1. Re:ordering RACE-encoded names with joker.com? on Registrations Now Accepted For Asian Domain Names · · Score: 1
What'll stop you doing that is that the prefix will change, and your domain will be left out in the cold.

This has already been tried - stories were doing the rounds last week of registrars doing this. When bq- changes, they'll have some very annoyed customers.

On a Windows system at least with a Chinese Input Method Editor (who the hell thought of that TLA?), I *think* it will in fact display in native characters due to the IME taking control of the text input fields and clobbering the rest of the OS with a blunt stick.

Have to try that one when I get to work tomorrow.

(NJStar's not bad as IME's go - at least it's not a Microsoft product)

Maybe there was a "one-click shopping" link at the bottom of an Amazon page that charges any Amazon account holder the licensing fee and gives them a license...

  4. It's not *tabbed windows*. on Adobe Sues Over Tabbed Widgets · · Score: 1

They're not suing for the use of tabbed windows. They're suing for the use of tabbed *palettes*. The palettes allow you to tear off the controls in the tab and put them into a separate window, or combine the available tabs into any number of palettes in any combination the user prefers. On the one hand - yeah, sure, I can see why they're suing for this. Adobe spent a lot of money developing this look and feel for stuff (first time I noticed it was changing from Photoslop 3 to 4, but I hadn't been in the industry long at that point), and everyone's imitated and copied it. But, on the other hand: everyone's imitated and copied it. Leave it be, Adobe - you should have gone after the first person to imitate and copy it, instead of waiting for Macromedia to do it. Amusing aside to the dichotomy of those two statements: the demonstration on adobefacts.com actually shows us that Macromedia did it better - they display the name of the tab while you're dragging it. Adobe does not. *shrug* :) (Bias disclaimer: I use Photoshop, and I don't like Fireworks. I use Homesite, and I don't like Dreamweaver. I don't do any Flash.)

Most of the time when I browse around on here I find some kind of meaningful discussion about the topics posted. For some reason, this doesn't seem to hold true for the Amiga-related stories that have been popping up lately.

I suppose that this is likely to attract flame responses, but oh well. (hey, I'm posting from a real logged in /. account instead of hiding behind anonymity - go for it!)

Will you lot please grow up?

It's amazing how petty the Amiga threads here have become. Seems they all follow the same pattern: Some kind of actual news makes its way to the public (which in itself is an achievement given how quiet Amiga has been and how noisy the Amiga community has been), someone posts it to /., and then all the flamers and morons come out to play.

    Just a games machine.

    It's dead, leave it be.

Do you people have nothing better to do than tear down anything that may actually have a chance at success? Do you actually have a clue what you're shouting down in the first place? It's always easier to rip something to shreds to make yourself feel better than it is to actually discuss the news, isn't it... that is, after all, what I thought Slashdot was HERE for.

I find it upsets me to say it, but this attitude from several frequent posters here has greatly disappointed me. I hope its a trend that isn't going to continue.

Some posters have said that any information stored on a host is subject to classification. This isn't the case, as the information also has to be available for access via an ISP.

I was led to believe that included any materials transmissible over the net, not neccessarily accessible via an ISP. This means that, since the contents of your HD are definitely transmissable, that your HD is technically covered by this legislation.

Oh, you say, but its not accessible unless I have set up network services to allow it. I'm sure you've heard of BackOrifice, though..........

  9. Humour Moderation on Slashdot Notes · · Score: 1

Why not keep a separate score for humour? I think someone mentioned

I noticed that someone suggested that points for humour should be
added, but not taken away. Seems like a good idea to me, and if the
humour score is kept separate from the normal moderation score
perhaps in future we'd all be able to search for humourous posts
    regardless of their score?

Then again, I'm stuck at home sick today and my mind isn't firing on

I'm not so sure about tables inheriting their parent's attributes. I assumed it was the case for quite a while but recently they've stopped doing it (I'm talking 4.08 here at the moment).

Anyway ... just lately I've noticed that I had to specify cellpadding & spacing to 0 even on a table that's inside a pad/space=0 table. I agree, the table spec isn't clear on this too - and the answer varies according to who you ask. Time to figure out what is, isn't, should be and shouldn't be... I may need to get the author of Voyager (An Amiga web browser, folks) to change it.

I don't think that it's a huge major problem or anything though... I suppose it makes us all a lot more specific really with our table definitions :)

Oh yeah .... my first post. Yay. :)
