The difference is I don't have a 200 year old paper to hide behind and can and will be held accountable for what I say. I don't feel all Americans hide behind the constitution, but definitely some like to use it as an excuse to own automatic weapons, which is ridiculous, or use it to say and do hateful and mean things. Why? because there are no consequences for being an ass hole and spewing shit all over everyone and everything.

As you picked up in my post, the issue becomes when people start abusing the ability to say what they want or the ability to own weapons it hurts everyone. You're also right that there's no good solution. I do firmly believe that, even though you have to be responsible with what and when you say something, the only way to make sure you can say what you want is to make damn sure the people that you disagree with can also say what they want. I don't disagree with you. I was just pointing out that taxes burden the extremely poor more than the burden the extremely rich. I ended up with a $1500 pay raise last year, but I take home around $40 less than before on every paycheck because I was bumped into the bottom of a higher tax bracket.
On the other hand, I do feel part of the issue with wealth distribution is people that make excessively large amounts of money take it for granted. I find the "I worked hard to earn 1000 times more than you and shouldn't have to pay the same amount" attitude a little aggravating.

Five of the ten people on my work team just lost their jobs. Sure maybe it seems I'm paying more than my share, but It's nice to know there's a safety net there if I had been one of the seemingly randomly selected individuals. At least I could claim EI and have time to find a new job before my house was foreclosed on. I think we should just be grateful that we're not in the $100 category and have to chose between food, heat and shelter.

I think what he's referring to is if I make $100 and you make $10,000. I'm going to pay $20 in income tax while you'll pay $2000. On the surface that seems fair, but when you factor in other necessities are a fixed cost you'll have significantly more purchasing power than me after taxes are taken away. After all I only have $80 left to pay my oil bill (I live in Canada it would be hard to survive a winter without heat), buy food and pay rent/mortgage. You'll have $8000 left over.

I'm not complaining about the system, our taxes go to pay for services that we all use and we should all pay a share. I'm just pointing out that the more money you make the easier it is for you to continue purchasing stuff, needed or not, after paying taxes. Where as I might have to choose between paying $80 for rent/mortgage, $20 for oil or $10 for a weeks groceries.

If it seems essential, millions of users are screaming "we need it" and third parties are writing extensions to put it back, it was essential. The start menu is a nicely organized hierarchical structure where it's easy to find applications I might not necessarily know the name of off the top of my head.

The Metro interface looks like my daughter ate a box of crayons and barfed on several place mats. There are so many issues I could literally type a fifty page document on how not to do usability when designing an interface for human computer interaction.

Not to mention from what I've read and seen demonstrated the Metro interface could possibly be used as advertising platform by constantly updating tiles to display new sales, promotions, etc... You know marketing firms will take full advantage of that. Who wants to read dozens of advertisements when you're trying to find an application to do work with?

Please don't go around tell everyone out there the start menu isn't essential to them because you don't use it. I might as well go around saying cars don't need blinkers because my father-in-law doesn't use them.

A simple Windows+D keystroke takes you into desktop mode and you can choose to remain there as long as you wish. I do hate the removal of the windows launcher in Desktop mode, but there are alternative options out there to get back that functionality.

This is what's really bugging me about everything I read that has to do with Windows 8, people are constantly making excuses for it.

Seriously, it became ok to remove a feature that seemed to be essential to the system because we can download a third party module that will fix it? Honestly, If there is such a demand for a feature that people have to download an extension to get the feature back, is that maybe something that shouldn't have been removed in the first place? and it's ok that it starts up in "tablet" mode a.k.a "Metro" on a laptop or PC because all you have to do to start getting work done is press Win+D?

To me this all sounds like utter intolerable insanity. Because people keep making excuses it makes me seriously think there's something else going on there and any positive message concerning Win8 needs to be taken with a mountain of salt.

My bet is the first change they'll tote in Windows 9 is the convenient new start menu where applications can be launched without having to use the metro interface. The next thing will be that it starts up in Desktop mode on Laptops and PCs by default and Metro on tables and phones.

Yes, I remember living in NC and having the same issue. Although back then the exchange was $0.50 to $0.65. It's never been an issue in Canada, that I'm aware of, to take American change. Even as much as a quarter would be taken at face value at a place like Tim Hortons and even just last September when my Mom was visiting Tim's still took American change from her with no issue. It was only when she wanted to pay with an American $5 bill the exchange rate came into play.

Most of my American friends become very defensive when you talk about American-Canadian Dollar parity.

It does make me think you could really rip off a lot of retailers by buying a ton of American change. In a perfect system at a 1.10 exchange, $100 CAD would get you $110 USD. So paying in American change would get you $110 worth of Canadian goods. Of course that assumes you could get 1.10 exchange, the Banks not taking a "Transfer" fee, Banks would sell you change and retailers wouldn't mind you paying for a product with $5+ in American quarters.

So for small amounts I can see a retailer not caring about one cent, but I understand them raising flags if you're paying for a $5+ purchase in change.

I think it would be very difficult to work additional content into the game after the fact. Some other things, like Banner Saga, it could be done after the fact in order to meet deadlines. I'm a software developer and understand the importance of deadlines, but I also understand the concept of scope creep and how that can affect a deadline so I think I'm probably a little more lax then others when it comes to meeting deadlines.
