NOOOOOOOOOO. DONT DO IT! Or at least make it optional or do some UI design research FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Seriously, I don't want to have to learn tex to print my stuff:(:(:(.
As long as they reduce the damned compile time I wont complain too much.
Guys, guys, guys. This makes PERFECT sense. Apple sells expensive computers, therefore Microsoft can still out compete them by selling at only say $50 less (the actually reduce the price even more). PC hardware is generally much cheaper since there is more competition between hardware firms, so Microsoft can charge through the nose for their OS without fear of retribution. Thus, to understand why Windows is so expensive, you first must understand why Macs are so expensive, and then you must ask, what the hell is wrong with american since normally when they can get something for free (in dollars regardless of time) they will ALWAYS take that option. Answer: Microsoft still has so much market power that a free alternative does not seem attractive.
The only way bipeds can walk or run efficiently (ie not complete drain all their power moving their legs) is if they store energy in their spine, this little fellow probably loses all the energy it takes to move without storing any of it for the next step. I guess we'll just have to wait for those CNT muscles.
I honestly hope this works, ARM always seems to use a more stable and generally applicable architecture, besides, at this point it the game we can get speed and cores and performance no problem, but in the long run it will always boil down to performance/watt. This might apply more to servers, but I think it is still a good idea for all tiers of computing. Might finally get people to accept a reasonable standard so we can stop splitting the compiler developer community. *pieinthesky*
Hang on... this is like the "trying to copyright pictures of paintings in the public domain." You can patent a camera, but it has been unambiguously ruled that trying to copyright a photograph of something in the public domain does not add any creative value to the painting and thus does not constitute a novel creative work. Same thing here, you can patent/copyright your bit of software, but claiming that any output it generates also constitutes a creative work by the coder of the software will not fly because the user of the software is usually the one who is doing the creative work. Maybe I'm thinking more along the lines of word processors and books where this is obvious and any goon trying to claim otherwise would be laughed out of court....
"Im sorry Dan Brown, but Bill Gates has the rights to your new book since you use MSWord2008, should have used emacs."
Also, fuck Wolfram, I was given a copy of his big fat book "New Science" or whatever, I'm not going to read it, and I can get Mathematica for free through my Uni, but I think I'll stick with my TI83 emulator since TI doesnt have a God complex.
Video games can be funny, but they have to employ different kinds of humor. For example, the guys at Black Ilse have gotten me to laugh multiple times while playing Planescape Torment and Fallout 2. Fallout 2 was hands down the funniest game I have ever played, but mostly because of the utterly absurd things you could do and the continual breaking of the 4th wall, which is critical for humor in games. I think one of the major reasons why games arent funny is because developers take themselves too seriously (witness the travesty that was oblivion with guns).
How many times have I had someone ask me something to which I know the answer? A lot.
How many times have I told the to google it because it is easier for google to explain it than for me? Every single time I have been asked.
What does this tell me about facebook???!?! It tells me that most people on facebook are leaches, they gobble up random stuff spewed out by other users and spew the same narcissistic crap right back out (you are what you eat right?).
If I want someone to help me I'm probably going to have better luck with the impersonal google, because, lets be honest here, IRL most people only give a shit about themselves, and when you bring that IRL attitude online you're going to see exactly the same thing.
Google works because it can troll through the whole internet to find the few people that have been helpful on the internet. Which incidentally happens because google can search topic specific message boards where people with specific knowledge hang out. Facebook can try to replicate this with "groups" and "fan" etc. but that is not what people use facebook, and they will never be able to compete in a world where your friends dont google for you.

Wait, you're telling me the Shrek was the creation of a rogue 486 hyped up on 512mb of ram?! It all makes sense now!

How about dev houses. Black Ilse is number one on my list. Maybe then Fallout can get a real reboot.
Who the hell needs CSS+webkit when you have vim????
(full disclosure: is fluxbox user)
