As someone new to comic books in general, I wholeheartedly second the recommendation of coming to the Small Press Expo. Besides the absurdly large San Diego Comic Con (which just came and went), this is probably one of the best conventions as it's quite cozy and gives you lots of chances to talk with creators as well as find books that you aren't likely to find at your comicbook shop.
If you're able to come at the end of August and you want to hit a large gaming convention, DragonCon might be for you. Though i've never been to it, I've been told that it's one of the largest gaming conventions on the US East Coast.
But the Smithsonian's Air and Space museum is going to open it's Udvar-Hazy Center. The scheduled opening day is in December 2003. Eventually the center will be displaying the space shuttle Enterprise as well as an SR-71 Blackbird. They list the arrival schedule of various artifacts on their site.
It's also worth noting, that the main Smithsonian musuem is open to the public, free of charge, as are most of the monuments in DC. This should help out your budget. They do have public transportation around DC, but I know of no plans now to have a shuttle run from downtown DC to the new Center when it opens.
Speaking of Stars! Mare Crisium is producing it's sequal Stars! Supernova Genesis. Check out Crisium's homepage for more info on it. It is significantly snazzier, including the option for allied victory.
I'm currently in the process of rewriting a stats processing facility for a site I run. In the past people would come to me and ask for numbers and the whole thing (based off of korn) started becoming a steaming pile. New reports would need to be coded and it would just get added on without any attempt to optimize the code.
As soon as I saw this happening, I just said fuck it and started recoding everything that had been written. I didn't talk to management, I just did it. Granted your project is probably a lot larger than what i'm working on, but if it's really needed you have to go ahead and do it. I moved from a shell/perl/textfile mess to a database backend and i'm going to be adding support for realtime stats. I work on this in my own time and without management's approval. Sometimes you just have to go balls out and drive things to respectability.
In the sea directory at the lowest level there is an install file for each language/OS combo. You can download that instead of grabbing 2078 XPI files.
I can't believe that an admin on Slashdot would suggest that people here choose MS Internet Explorer over Netscape. For one, most of the people here use unix based operating systems (or at least it seems the case to me) and IE doesn't run on a x86 arch. unless you've got Windows.
On top of that, while Netscape might not support every standard at least it's faster than IE 5.5 and it doesn't come up with generic error pages when it can't find a page. I've seen IE unable to load a page that Netscape could on the same machine. I'm not talking about displaying correctly, just loading _something_.
Maybe it sucks, but as long as it meets my minimum requirements and it's still fast I will continue to use it as my browser.
The first phone you mention is the Qualcomm 800. That phone did have a history of problems and kept the techs at my company busy for a while. Overall the 800 was a solid phone when it worked. Keep in mind that it was a 1st generation phone.
The QCP-820 (which is actually made in part by Sony) completely sucked with ~40% DOAs for my company. Sony eventually left the handset business (in the US), partially because of this phone. Newer phones like the QCP-860 and the Q phone are substancially better. I use a Q phone now, and have for months with no problems. Usually if you find that you have a bad phone, the store that you bought it from has more because bad phones come in bunches. Qualcomm does, in my opinion, make solid products. They also work with us (The wireless providers) to fix problems and release firmware upgrades on a timely basis. In my brief time with the pdQ, it didn't break once. All of my issues with it were useability issues.
You do have an option to turn off the phone and continue to use the Palm side of the device.
Overall I didn't like this thing. It is just too large to use as a primary phone. It's easier for me to carry a clamshell phone and a Palm V in my pocket. The stylus that it comes with is kinda flimsy and it's flat. To use the Palm you have to flip down the entire keypad because part of the palm screen doubles as the screen for the phone.
It is worth noting that they do make a CDMA version, so you're not limited to PCS.
Hmm. Someone told me that WC4 really sucked arse. Is this true? I thought Prophecy was the best game in the WC series. Mind you I don't really care about the acting.

Here's the webpage from Qualcomm with specs.
