Then wouldn't Darwin be like Star Trek: The Next Generation. Ooh, and then for DS9 you'd need MacOS for Alpha servers (cause they just sit there), and then for Voyager you'd need the MacOS on WinCE/Palm devices. And then we'd need movies for each (Pirates of Silicon Valley, perhaps?).
As far as I can tell the internet is something that the US started and then other countries joined in. However, since the internet is based on nodes of computers, then shutting down those in the US doesn't kill the UK ones. As long as there is a protocol and adress(es), then the internet will live.
Not necissarily. If I write a letter to the editor of a newspaper (like commenting a/. article) it becomes their copyright. But if I pay a lawyer to help me trademark a name, should he own it?
The difference is that we don't pay/. to comment, but we pay (or a registrar pays) netsol for a name. If it was free the might have the right to own it, but it would not be feasible for them to say so.
I like steed's ideas about a wildly artistic company, but the problem lies in that he is an artist, and for what he would want he almost needs to be paired with carmack. The Q3 engine took 18 months to build and if steed wants 3 games in 5 years he'll either have to use the same engine over or lease one.
IMHO, paul should stick with the freelance work for the time being, that way he can stretch his legs, and he said, and cna take the time to find the people he would need to for Pummel.
I'm not sure if it is the "cutting-edgeness" of the specs that really matter. Think of it this way: I run a 1 GHz Athlon (thunderbird) with a 64MB Geforce 2 and 512 MB RAM. Using the Quake3 timedemos I can only keep around 45 FPS at 1280x1024. Now the X-Box for most everyones intents and purposes will never go above 640x480. Now if I take another machine, 600 PII, 128 MB RAM and the 64MB GF2. Do the same test at 640x640 and I keep around 60+ FPS.
The resolution is what determines the speed of a console machine. TV's cannot top 640x480, so if your console has a 120 MP fill rate (ala N64) then regardless of how tight the code is there will be some speed.
It's similar to the quake addict who plays at low resolutions so the only lag comes from his connection and not the hardware.
Keep in mind that Steed, although I love him like a brother, has a paper trail to follow. For example, the big crack whore (model) fiasco, or his public enjoyment of the female body. I think he was chosen not just at random, but to fit Texas' laws about firing people. But I still think it is wrong and can't wait to see Keven and Adrien's mail bombs.
I've noticed that people don't consider punks as computer people. Look at the Bench.org, there are two punk related strips (one of them is mine). Are there any ideas as to why? I mean I've used Linux for two years (my first kernel compile was when I was 13), and set up my own network (complete with network server and proxy). That and I wanted to pimp my strip.
Wasn't id Software working on some secret project called Trinity? Maybe that's why Carmack hasn't been heard from in a while....

The only problem is when the google page's slashdotted.
