    Whenever I recall what someone said, I literally "hear" them saying it in my head. Same with music and other audible stimuli.

    I often wonder what differentiates this from the auditory hallucinations some schizophrenics experience. From what I understand it usually isn't voices they "hear" - bells ringing is reported quite a bit, also the sound of wind.

    Depending on the asteroid size and composition I'd be worried that the warhead would drill through the asteroid entirely and exit out the far side. I guess you could start a watchdog timer to trigger a few ms after impact no matter what.

    It is if it goes off deep inside the thing (hence the crater and penetrating warhead). No air needed for shockwave - the material of the asteroid will do fine.

    I imagine the nuke shatters the asteroid, sending chunks flying, and Newton 2 then comes into play diverting the main body just enough to miss us.

    ...and I absolutely cannot figure out the passphrase to save my life. I have some old code on that drive that I want back. I think it is on that drive anyway. Oh well.

    Now that drive is several years old.

    I guess it is plausible that this dude forgot his passwords, but to forget 6?

    Question, are there unencrypted timestamps anywhere (either the drive itself or on the PC he used to access the drives) that can prove when he last accessed those drives?

    Lower judges can and do rule on matters of constitutional law. The Supreme Court optionally hears cases in matters that are appealled up the chain. SCOTUS does not have to hear a case, and if they do they do not have to rule.... because once they do rule the matter DOES become absolute. One thing the founders did right was realize that life is not absolute.

    FBI got into one of the drives (how is irrelevent). They found kiddie porn.

    Now that he can (and will) be proven guilty, not sure if self incrimination is still possible since he is already incriminated. Unless of course there is evidence of further crimes (snuff porn perhaps) on those drives.

    Actually, I don't work for them any more. I left and went to work for NASA.

    We were a small shop that created very stabilized extremely high definition airborne and spaceborne cameras for NASA, NOAA, and ESA... until BAE came along and bought us out. Then, DOD was the main (not only) customer. But nice try at clumping anyone that works for a company like BAE together as part of the evil empire. I also know some folks who work for Northrup Grumman... the run the main data center for Medicade. Are they also part of the MIC?

    Don't confuse BAE Systems Plc (UK) with BAE Systems Inc (US).

    While Inc is owned by Plc, they are in effect totally different companies.

    Sometimes... but rarely. Usually (not always) if it is that bad it won't be accepted in the first place. Software is the only system that gets better with time and use. Rewriting from scratch (as opposed to an intelligent refactor) totally negates that, not to mention flushed a companies investment in developing it right down the toilet (not that I really care about that).

    1) they admitted they over withheld taxes, even taking into account additional withholding for bonus pay
    2) 401K is a stated coporate policy to not withhold that from bonus pay

    The upshot is that they wanted as little $ in my pocket as possible. While it sounds petty and too much trouble for a large corporation to go through... if you have ever worked for BAE you know that this is simply the way they are. And they aren't alone.

    Personally a big red flag for me is when a dev says "I have to completely rewrite this persons code."

    Not saying it doesn't happen, but a decent developer should be able to deal with other peoples work.
