Most successful people put in maximum face time. I.e., they are in the office before & after the boss leaves. Unless you are in a position where you are able to constantly put out fresh new ideas that indicate you are not only doing your job, but adding to the company, this type of "flex time" can make you expendable and move up the ladder slower.
Interesting WSJ article... but isn't touting the fact yahoo "more closely matches the desktop experience" a bit irrelevant? It is kind of like saying, "the abacus more closely matches the way people do math, so of course people will prefer it over a calculator." Gmail's innovations in conversations, hotkeys, tags, chat integration, and fast clean interface out classes yahoo's "normal desktop experience" any day of the week.
It's a great argument Walt, loads of people still use the abacus.
Ads generally blink, move around, are annoying bright colors, and otherwise distracting. Ads on webpages are like spam email: annoying, convey no useful information, and waste time.
To block ads I use: firefox extensions - * adblocks * customizegoogle (gets rid of a lot of google ads) * greasemonkey (until I upgraded to the beta versions)
I realize that blocking ads may inevitably lead to paying for content which in my mind would be a good trade. I already pay for the NYTimes, but I'm still inundated by their ads, so I block them. Why should I look at ads on services I pay for? That is the most annoying ad of all.
I don't know what the statistics are, but the identity thieves from this story could have stolen Ovid's trash, or obtained the information in a far less technologically advanced way.
It is very rare that customer information is stolen from reputable online stores. When it happens, it is a major story, so if you read the newspapers, you'll find out about it right away, early enough to do something about it proactively.
The risk (for most people) just doesn't justify the huge expense of some of the current prepaid options like netspend. If you're really concerned the only way to not leave any sort of trail is to use cash, always.
Yes the fact the japanese are the most racist people on earth is because of the western influence. The hundred of thousands of chinese they slaughtered, the american troops they captured, tortured and killed, the entire civilizations that lived on the pacific islands they erradicated... it is all western culture's fault. The japanese are perfect. It is all our fault.
You mindless sheep. BAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Go to Japan, have them chase you around giggling, pointing, laughing, and making fun of you. When you go into the "wrong" restraunt where they refuse to serve you, or pretend to not understand when you order something in perfect japanese.
A PDA to increase japanese tourism? Oh wait a second... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Because google made the wonderful decision NOT to work on linux OR to integrate fully with firefox. Why use a piece of 3rd party software when microsoft can build it so that the searches will be faster with it? Also google doesn't search thunderbird emails. If google keeps making such good decisions, Microsoft deserves to win.
It all comes down to refresh rate. Looking at a computer screen even with an INSANELY high refresh rate still tires my eyes a way that printed material doesn't.
I'd buy an ebook reader today if one exists that didn't use computer screen technology but some sort of ink shifting/computer generated fixed print method instead.

KYOURadio will even let you stream their radio station, if you are on Windows. Mac, Linux, need not apply.
But they do support OCG and PNG

Duplidisk makes these neat $10 (from ebay) IDE hardware raid 1 cards. I don't think there is a cheaper solution.

We use them in all our firewalls and they've been working great.
