  1. I don't really think so. on Is Tablet Success Bound To Their Crackability? · · Score: 1

I mean I do love hacking my gadgets, but I'm part of a very small minority, that vast, vast majority of people don't want to hear about hacking.

What people do want is something easy, safe, and that does what they want. Free is good too, but most people are not ready to hack for "free" instead of "5 bucks". I think the issue right now is Tablets not doing what people want. Things like accessing my LAN/NAS should NOT require a hack or an app for a device whose main fucntion is to watch my f**ing media !

It looks like they're not changing much on that one, just the shell (hey, several graphical shells that you can pick and choose ! that's Innovation ! oh, wait..), and a handful of drivers. I've given up hope on ReadyBoost for SSDs. So, MS might manage to not screw too badly up that mild update. Might not even be worth upgrading on the desktop. Stay tuned, though.

I've tried a couple. My tablet is missing a component for samba or NFS access, and its not on xda, so indeed it must be FTP or HTTP download, which is as cumbersome a drag and drop from my PC. I'm guessing a 1st-tier tablet wouldn't have that issue.

  15. Re:I see tablets all over the place on Sluggish Android Tablet Growth May Give Microsoft an Opening · · Score: 1

People buying them does not mean they're using them. I have one (8" Android 2.2, with an excellent 1280x768 capacitive screen), and barely use it. My dilemma is whether to double down and get a better one, or just give up on it. My tablet is not so much competing vs my netbook, as vs my HTC HD2. The 4.3" screen is big enough for ereading (except pdfs), mail and keeping up to date with rss feeds.

So the tablet is justified only for browsing, reading comics, and reading pdfs and docs. I've bought QuickOffice to be able to edit docs, but haven't used it yet. Plus, when I'm home, not being able to access content directly off my NAS is a pain (I'm supposed to FTP it over, then play it, or drag and drop it, or put it on an SD card or USB key... that's too cumbersome... I've got a NAS, if've got wifi... talk ! In the end, I'm still using my netbook for that...). When I'm outside, the thing needs 2 hands or a flat surface, taking out of a bag, usually has no 'net (no wifi, and a dedicated data plan does not seem worth it at all)... I find myself reaching for my HD2 instead.

I'm sure I'll be getting the upcoming Samsung very large screen (4.65" or 5.3", rumors differ) phone (barring nasty surprises). I'm really wondering whether I should get the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet, which seems most suited to my needs (full size ports, real pen to take notes...).

Indeed, being a DPS requires less rigour and concentration. As a tank, I always shouted loudly at the first DPS pull, and took the time to lead and explain strats if needed. And dropped group rather quickly if anarchy happened ^^

Actually; Blizzard IS enforcing a tank imbalance: you need 20% tank for heroics, and about 10% for raids, so tanks are kinda dead ends for high level play.
Plus, the effects balloons: since tanks are scarce in heroics, they gear up faster, and stop running them. Are turn into divas.

  22. What did it for me was on World of Warcraft Finally Loses Subscribers · · Score: 2, Interesting

    - the rampant immaturity and callousness. MMOs need a karma system, even several, where you rate your random-grouped partners on their skill, social behaviour, and efficiency.
    - the endless grind, which is harder to solve: either things come too easy to anyone, or one must grind them for hours...
    - the lack of new stuff. Blizzard has tweaked WoW, but not really added new game mechanisms over the years. My last fights a few months ago were very similar to whatever I was doing in Molten Core way back when.
    - the gross imbalance in Tank/Healer/DPS numbers, leading to 30+ minutes waits to run an instance with a DPS.
    - my guild insisted on doing 25-players raids, which I find top heavy and boring.
    - permanent balance issues. I think there were too many classes filling the same roles, but not equally. They never delivered on "take the player, not the class"
