It already does 99% of what Siri does, and all they have to do is make a different app with the same code as google voice and just add a series of lookup tables that convert common phrase fragments into Android commands. Easy Peasy. If I had the source code to google voice search, I could do it easily. (I am a professional programmer, btw) it should be fairly easy for Google to duplicate everything Siri does just by adding a little additional code. It would take them days, not years. I love how the author doesn't know jack about anything.
This coming from the company that created the Google Chrome webbrowser, which purposely bypasses ALL of Windows Security features to allow it to be installed even on the most locked-down user accounts. Seems ironic that that they would tout this when their own software uses the same techniques utilized by malware and virus authors.

I am getting frakked in the the a$$ by Com-Xfinitysucks-castic by ridiculuous price increases and equipment fees. I pay over $100 a month for 1.5 mb download and digital basic tv, and that's WITHOUT HD. If I want HD, I have to pay an additional $40 per month plus an upcharge on an HD box. Now Comcast just forced me to get these stupid DTA boxes which eliminate the ability to get any free HD channels and effectively eliminates the QAM channels I used to be able to pick up on my LCD HDTV. WIthout the DTA I can only watch 15 channels. And of course they only give you 2 "free" DTA's... if you have more TV's, you have to rent them for $2 a month. Nothing but a SCAM. I am cancelling Comcast. And when Verizon ends the unliminted data plan, I am cancelling Verizon. Seriously... I might as well forego internet all together. Frak these companies who make it so expensive to enjoy technology with their 400% upcharges on services.

The Objective-C programming language and the XCode IDE are probably the worst tools I've ever had to work with, with the exception of having to do apps in horrible JavaSwing once-upon-a-time. Actually the graphics programming is pretty decent but the Objective-C syntax is just retarded.
Anyway, the draconian control Apple has over their platfrom should be alarming to all developers. Forcing what tools (and hardware) developers have to use, forcing developers to pay $100 a year just for the right to use the tools, and no guarantee you will ever be able to get your hard work on the App Store are all reasons to boycott the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad development.
You say that the Google Android platform is no alternative? Only time will tell. I personally believe that the iPhone/iTouch/iPad market is only a temporary star for Apple. Eventually they will get knocked down by better products with better developer support and without all the draconian BS Apple forces on developers.

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about... You keep referencing MFC and Visual Studio 2008 together like they are somehow related. If you were doing something in Visual Studio 2008, you were unlikely developing a MFC app. MFC is ancient and rarely used anymore. You were either doing something in WinForms, WPF, or a console app.

The vector-based graphics and animations are great, but the language is so backwards and retarded. It's not very hard once you figure out how to do stuff, it's just a pain because it is so unconventional. And I mean that not in a good way. Having done years and years of development in C++, Java, VB.Net, C#, and mostly recently WPF applications with C#, Objective C just feels inferior in EVERY way. Any experienced GUI developer who has had to do anything with the absolutely atrocious XCode Interface Builder knows what I'm talking about. (Although I would argue that doing GUI work in Java using ANY of the GUI frameworks is 10 times more painful than using the XCode Interface Builder. If you want to do good GUI's, Java aint the right tool, period.)
I laugh at Apple wanting to force developers to use their own language. What did you expect from Apple? They are draconian and anti-open source and anti-developer. This is the reason that eventually the iCrap will be overshadowed by better products from competitors in the future.

I've never really needed anything more than very basic algebra and bitwise operations. I've written hundreds and hundreds of programs, mostly in C, C++, C#, Java, VB6, and VB.NET. I've worked with Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, and DB2 databases in my programs. I've written code to process credit card transactions, print complicated multi-part receipts with multiple control breaks, and calculate tax. I've been part of a team that has created brand new point-of-sale systems. I've created numerous back-end processing programs, some of them even CICS programs. I've written a messaging platform that handles the interaction between the cash registers, customer-pickup kiosks, and employee wireless hand-held devices. I've built stand-alone web servers. I've built tools that help us do Windows workstation builds. I've built tools that completely automate the creation of the VirutalServer VirtualMachines. I've built performance monitoring tools that display 2d graphs. I've built signature capture code. I've built rudamentary encryption/decryption routines These are just some examples of the things I've done in my 11 years here. I have never needed anything other than basic algebra for all of that.
The only time I ever needed more math was when I dabbled in game programming as a hobby. I used linear algebra (which I had in school, but had to mostly relearn) and some calculus for 3d programming. The linear algebra was for the transformation and rotation matrices and the calculus was for things like calculation the normal of a triangle so that light would be calculated correctly. I didn't get real far with my game programming, but I did build a simple 3D engine that loaded my own 3D model format, rendered multi-level tesellated/textured terrain, had parallax scrolling sky billboards and a few other eye candy things. I also wrote 3 different model exporters. One for Lightwave 3D, one for 3D Studio Max, and one for Milkshape 3D.
Am I great with math? Absolutely not. Do I have a lot of mathematical training? No. Did I need a lot of mathematical training? Not really. I did have linear algebra in college and Calculus I. I also had 1 statistics class. I didn't do well in Calculus class because my professor was absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had.
I have a B.S. in Computer Science, if you are curious.

Say what you will, but I am done with NetGear. I have an N wireless router that routine locks up and has to be reset. I have had 2 different wireless NetGear adapters that have a major design flaw that causes them to overheat and crash. This would happen in less than 30 minutes. What a royal PITA that was. Tons of threads on the internet about these crappy adapters, and NetGear refuses to do anything about it. And yet they are STILL selling the same flawed design. I'm really surprised that somebody didn't start a class action lawsuit against them. Never again will I trust NetGear equipment. Got a Linksys wireless adapter and never had a problem.
Jack Thompson should be disbarred. His lawsuits are nothing but frivelous and a waste of tax payer money. He must have blown all his money that he earned from his tv show and now needs to keep filing idiotic lawsuits in hte hopes to make money for his ridiculous lifestyle. This guy should be disbarred and then he should be exiled from our country.

I'd hate to have developed software for a platform, only to find it removed from the platform a few months later as an anti-competitive action because the company that owns the platfrom decides to release their own versions of the same thing. That could put me out of business! And I'm sure the developer agreement with Apple gives them full rights to do this. Yikes. Well, I'm one of the few around here that doesn't have an iphone anyway.
Here's what I have to say to those who want to charge $5 to read their "online" newspaper. Good luck with that. I'll be over here where the news is still "free".
