Sorry for being on topic. I remember discussing this on /. and I'm still kinda surprised Hans actually did it. I still think it was a bad conviction, even if it randomly happened to have turned out to be correct. Kind of like the salem witch trial convictions were wrong, even if we somehow figured out one of them was a real live magical genuine witch after the fact (however unlikely that would be).

Yeah, it was so terrible that they had evidence rather than loony conspiracy theories like Hans and his defense attorneys were throwing out. He was not some person being prosecuted for being "weird" or other such nonsense that you defenders kept claiming. He was an emotional and physical abusive asshole who murdered his wife for having the 'audacity' to leave an abusive relationship. He deserves no sympathy.

That's great, but there requirement just said $50,000 in donations. It neither said nor implied that he needed to take corporate money. If he can't get $50,000 from people to donate to his campaign or get more than 10% in the polls he has no chance to win.

Yeah, but it has no bearing on this. This is a roundtable debate that is part of a show that would easily fall under "bona fide news interview" exemption to that rule.

  17. You say there requirement is:

*Campaign contributions of at least $50,000

In what way does that say or imply you needed to take corporate donations? You seem to have invented that out of whole cloth. Also there other reasons aren't "trumped up". They can choose who they do or do not want in their debate and it seems perfectly reasonably to only give the limited time to candidates that have even a modicum of a chance of winning.

Basically, since you can't copyright the API itself, as long as you reimplement the API yourself such that your version is not a derivative work itself there are no copyright issues. Even if it ultimately ends up running against a GPLed implementation due to binary compatibility.

They claim that version numbers don't matter but a fuck up like this reminds us that it DOES matter (because without knowing the version number or some sort of information how do I know what to revert to?) and now they've made a system that makes reverting a total pain in the ass.
