    Because if you folks don't, I'll have to stop considering the USA as a place of democracy. And please, stop spying on your allies, ie. most of Europe, for example - or I'll have to consider the US a hostile nation. Along with Australia and Great Britain.

    Now, I know my personal opinion won't matter much... but unless Echelon is stopped, whoever throws England out of the EU will get MY votes.

    It's not a waste of money. The choice of the right domain name can mean a significant amount of traffic. A good domain name has to be short, easily memorizable, and in some way related to what you find on the website.

    Of course you still have to build a good site around your name - but for entrepreneurs, small business, or whatever busines--related website you have, you can't have a better domain name.

    I don't even want to speculate what sex.com is worth - but probably more than 10 mio.

    ...most of the browser are not even close to viable alternatives to the "classics", ie. Netscape and lynx. Most of them render only a subset of html, and/or render what they do understand in odd ways.

    I'd say, wait for Mozilla 5. The M11 release works great on my computer (ie, bombs only about every 15 minutes as long as you stay away from password-protected areas, compared to every 45 seconds of M10). Also, KDE 2.0's browser ought to be interesting.

    But besides that, there's not much out there.

    Either that, or Software Executive is the most overrated job in the world - Anybody who's just past the age of drooling can do it.

    I mean, come on, I know there's some really gifted kids out there. But at three, you just haven't had the time to gain the education or experience necessary to do any kind of real work.

    Does he at least have a PalmPilot? No? So where's the geek aspect anyway?

    I guess according to this "test", I *should* have blown up my entire high school in 11th grade. Of course I never got around to it. I feel like such a loser now.
    Can I do it now and tell them the FBI sent me?

    Sheesh, no offense, but sometimes, it amazes me, how the United States can combine such a high level of arrogance with such an obviously below-average intelligence.

    Then again, maybe the two are really defaults for each other.

    Also don't forget that many, many sites carry/mirror freshmeat articles (courtesy of Daily Update and similar scripts), so there's another reason for "delayed" hits, and for a higher "background noise".

    Few other news sites post links like slashdot does.
    It is, by the way, maazing to see how many hits you get merely submitting a story and including your homepage as a username link.. I hope my poor server at home is never "discovered" to carry anything cool (Unlikely, fortunately)... it'd go down in flames. ;-)

    The later trek movies - especially undiscovered land and first contact - are much, much superiour to the early trek movies. OK the Khan one was fine, but the first trek movie must have been one of the worst movies I've ever watched.

    I am pretty sure all of the current animated series are made with computers. If you look at, say,MIB, Godzilla, Extreme Ghostbusters or the french (?) "Magician"(all so-so shows, sometimes even good), they definitely have a different "feel" to them. They are a weird in-between of obvious drawings and "realistic" graphics, sometimes with very, very impressive results. Almost artful.

    Now, I haven't seen Starship Troopers the series yet, I hope they are closer to the book than the movie?

    We started with a C64 on a 300 baud connection. by the time I could afford my own line, computer and modem, the world had already reached 14.4k. The net came soon after, and within two years, the bbs scene was entirely dead.

    I don't know what you mean by "long time", but I am of course not talking about the "hot new releases". Those should always be watched in a cinema. You just can't beat the sound and visuals that they can do with professional equipment - and few of us earn enough to have their own 15 meter screens in the basement.

    Well, but look at this: When I was in the States, it cost me $1 to rent a movie for one night. Most movies, you won't want to watch more than once or twice anyway. So why copy them?

    I'm on a salary, but it states clearly the number of hours I am supposed to work in any given week. If I do overtime, I get it 1:1 as additional vacations/time off.

    Works for me.

    Besides, what good would a breakup do if it isn't done by application of a well placed tactical nuclear warhead underneath the CoS HQ in Florida?

    There ARE laws against insults, libel, slander, etc. As I said, I dunno about the US, but in Germany, there are.

    The right to your personal freedoms end at the moment where you step on others' rights. Including the freedom of speech.

    So as soon as you start abusing your freedom of speech for, say, libel, you can be forced to stop.

    And yeah we ignore US politicans. Heck I like our govenrment - they even encourage cryptography. :)

    You'd be hard pressed to provide the statues in our constitutions that forbid us to try for world domination. But we have to uphold democratic principles. There's a part in the constitution that REQUIRES all German citizens to fight anybody who tries to abolish democracy - even using weapons as a last resort.

    Of course everybody who takes over Germany and wants to abolish democracy would first change that part of the cinstitution, so it's a bit redundant.. ;)

    You're right, never thought about it.. then again I do have a cisco at home ;-P So I think I maybe forgiven ;-)

    Also, RedHat has always been much more expensive.. What was it, 120 DM or so? versus SuSE's 99 DM (79 for students).
