I think that this is a good move for AMD. There arch rival will be moving to an architecture that will need entirely new software to operate. Customers do not want that. Do you know how many places would still be using 486's today if the current architecture wasn't backwards compatable?

When the Icrapium comes out it will be bit before software is available for all the customers needs. When the SledgeHammer comes out it will be ready to work. No waiting for your favorite software to be ported over to the new architecture, you just go. Huge bonus!

When the Icrapiums come out alot of would be upgraders are going to stick to there pentiums. Who wants a great machine that you can't do the shit you need to do on it?

AMD biggest problem right now is to get the chip released much closer to Intel's release. Or else by that time all the needed software may be available for the Icrapium.

It has everything to do with technology. The purpose of the article is to show that technology is being misused by the media. Plus, how can you say it's not about technology if the media that is decribed could not exist w/o the technology.

I have little respect for anybody who idolizes celebrities. They just prove that they think celebrities are better people then them.

  9. Good article on Feature: Technology, Media and Grief · · Score: 1

I agree with what nearly all of what you said. I listen to a lot of conservative talk shows and I here a lot of good points brought up on this topic.

Through technology the media is striving to entertain its audience with the tragic stories they report. They realize that if they get do more than just report, but show gory images, high tech graphics, interview overly emotional people, etc that they will have a much larger viewing audience. They ultimately attempt make the viewer feel that he/she is a part of the story.

This causes a problem when the media by itself has the power to choose what news you are to be interested. It also causes others to try to redirect the media attention to themselves. Why did the WhiteHouse announce the finding of JFK jr.'s body? Did they conduct the search? Are they directly related to the incident in any way? No, Bill just want some attention.

Even worse than that is media ability to create idols or gods. This scares me. I am a christian and know quite well the warnings in Revelation. In no other time period has it been possible for a person to gain fame instantly. I didn't even know what JFK jr looked like until this weekend and yet he is supposed to be the bright flower of my generation? What I'm getting to is that the anti-christ will be able to use technology to become a god. He will use the media to make him famous even worshiped overnight.

Because of this I find technology entrigueing and frightening at the same time.

Just thought I'd share my views.

This is probably true, but why is AOL keeping logs of personal e-mail. They should, as a normal ISP would, keep it there until it's read and then delete it since it has already been stored locally on the users machine. I worked for an ISP, we logged traffic, not e-mail. I'm not even totally for logging traffic, if we didn't it be quite hard to catch spammers. My point here is basically that if you don't have the information your not going to get a court order for it.

I been thinking about the same thing, though I didn't think about alot of the things mentioned above. I have a pickup so I thought I would rig something up under the seat which contained the board, HD, etc. but I would want to set up a small monitor of sorts into the dash. Where would I get a small enough monitor (5" to 7"). Also, what about input devices, I really don't want to have a full size key board floating around in my truck...I don't have much room to begin with.
