It doesn't matter whether or not you own the CD.
Look at the myMP3.com lawsuit, they were sued succesfully for providing MP3's to people that owned the CD. So, I don't see how this is any different.

  2. Re:i don't see why this is good. on Supreme Court Rules ISPs Not Liable for E-mail Content · · Score: 2

    1) This has got nothing to do with security. It simply states that the ISP is not responsible for the content of email. This is not related to security. While they are not responsible for the content of the email sent from a comprimised account, I would assume that they are still responsible for the hole that allowed the account to be comprimised. If not, well, maybe someone needs to bring a lawsuit up, but that's a whole other issue.

    2) SPAM, well, SPAM is SPAM I guess, but I find that by protecting your email address, you don't get a lot. I have been surfing for 6'ish years, total of maybe 5 SPAM messages (not including stupid friends that forward chain-letters).

It is a good thing that they are not responsible for email content, look at demon in the UK, that whole libel thing. I believe that an ISP IS a common carrier and they should be treated as such.

They are not providing a direct copy of the DecSS code, they are simply providing a link for information purposes to the actual code. So, aren't they in the exact same position that the NY Times is in? I can't see how the MPAA can sue 2600 for providing the link, but not the NY Times.

Don't get me wrong, scripts can automate a lot of things, and I like them, but do they necessarily come into the "User interface" part?

What I feel is necessary for most people is simplicity, and secondarily, speed.. My dad was happy enough double clicking the "Outlook express" icon, that would dial his net connection , check his email, and disconnect after 5 minutes of inactivity.. he did this on a 486 with 12 meg of RAM.. speed comes secondary to simplicity. And he hardly needed me to help him get this working..

I guess the drivers are still beta.. but I wonder how well they will actually work. My G400Max (on an Athlon 700) is flaky to say the least with DRI. Most people would still be better off to stick with whatever is working for XF86 3.x.
    My own experience:
AMD 751 Irongate - the chipset sucks, not supported with current AGP code in the kernel (yah it's there but doesn't work), can get it working on X 3.3.x with utah-glx and a m em hack, but forget X 4.0 (at least till the agp code is working).
My recommendation would be to install X 4.0 into some other directory - ie not /usr/X11R6, and make sure that direct rendering is going to work first.

On a side note: How many people have gotten spam that says: If you do not want to receive any further e-mail like this, send mail to...? How many people actually do it? I don't do it because I think that it would just validate my address to them, that there's actually a person who checks his e-mail at this address. What do you think?

I agree, my wife setup a fake (linuxstart) account just to test this. Registered it on ONE page (that still denies they did not break their privacy agreement). About 3 days later, her first SPAM comes in.. it has the "reply to this to be removed from the list", so, she replies, and continues to reply to all the mail she gets with the above line. It's incredible how much SPAM she gets.
Note, I have a linuxstart account, I have not received a piece of SPAM there yet.. so it's not the provider. I think that replying to a SPAM mail is the worst thing you can do.

Well, I don't have anonymous call blocking, one of the phones that I has rings differently when the calling number is blocked. I think it's a Vista 350 made by Nortel? Also I have heard rumblings that there will be an option to block anon calls, or at least send them to a message that I've chosen.
Mind you, none of that helps much, the telemarketers that call me always show the name/number they are calling from (it's amazing how many of these people work from home!). Maybe that is a law in Canada? I would like to selectively block this or that number from calling, but this is kind of like a killfile, pretty easy to get around.
For the anon callers though, well, my parents are anon, so I still have to answer the phone ;-)

I don't think using this technology is going to provide a way for freeform flying trains.. it needs to be close to a surface for the WIG effect to happen, and needs to have walls on either side so that it can steer. (be steered?)
