I have the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2. it runs a modified version of DD-WRT. However, if you get one, DO NOT flash it with DD-WRT. It is very unreliable with DD-WRT right now. In fact, there is only a beta version of DD-WRT available. If you order this router anywhere, you're likely going to get an NH2, even though the box says NH on the outside. Instead, run the stock firmware. It supports everything you are likely to need, except for NAT Loopback. Adding NAT loopback is as simple as this:
Just go into the “Administration” menu and the “Commands” submenu. Save the text string below as a “Firewall command.” In other words, paste the command in, and then click the “Save Firewall” button. It will now apply itself after every reboot. Be sure to paste it as a single line.
Be sure to change the network (“192.168.1.0) to the appropriate address of your network.
I knew I shouldn't have skipped lunch. When I first saw the title I thought this was a "New Space Lunch System" for underprivileged aliens and astronauts.
the writes probably win because the raid controller stripes the writes across all 60 drives instead of just the 3. If you had 60 SSDs versus 60 platters, I would be willing to bet that the SSDs win every time.
"less CO" is the same as "more complete combustion". CO is a fuel itself. 2CO + O2 = 2CO2 and heat.
That's not entirely true. Because you have to have enough oxygen to get less CO. Also, a big component in exhaust fumes is unconsumed gasoline vapors, which is a bad thing (and the reason for an EGR valve, for instance). Gas fumes do not generate CO, but a lack of O2 does result in more CO.
You don't want to be starting an arms race with the moose population. You thought sharks with laser beams were bad? Just wait until the moose get their hands on some real lasers!
The laser plugs aren't to save electricity. The laser burns so hot that you get a much better "spark" if you will. In other words, more complete combustion and therefore more power, less gas fumes in exhaust, and (I am no expert but I imagine) less CO as well.
Myself, I'm looking into starting a part time tax-prep business and becoming an enrolled agent. Even working for another company, pay is typically $25-$30 an hour and compared to engineering, well, what can I say? Something about training monkeys? Dull, boring work but can pay the bills. And as an independent business owner there's a lot of potential to grow such a business. I know one engineer that quit and is doing this full time now. I know others that are semi-retired, but making $70k a year just during tax season. It sucks to have to leave the engineering profession, but this is what the industry has done to many of us.
I made more money selling magazine subscriptions than I ever did working at Initrode.
Having interviewed several ex-engineers from the Cape, I can testify that there is a good reason why a lot of them are unemployed. They are so specialized in a small areas of expertise that are not remotely useful outside of their realm. For instance, I interviewed a software guy that used a language (forget its name), that is only used by NASA. He had been doing that for over 20 years. He seemed to be completely out of touch with the rest of the technological world. He didn't make a very good impression in the interview.
You could also do what I did... you know, work your way through school. I worked about 30 hours a week, I took as many units as possible, and took summer school courses. I finished at the university in 3.5 years, with less than $10,000 in student loans. The only reason I took any loans out was to A) Get a laptop so I could use my own machine in labs and B) cut my hours my last semester so that I could take 23 units. There's no law saying you have to drop $100,000+ on college. I know many people who did, and I think they regret it.
Throwing away some mod points to say this but... What you said makes absolutely no sense. Everyone knows that Apple releases a new iPhone every 12 months. They have done so without fail until this year. So the loss of that phone doesn't cause people to hold off on buying a new phone. People are either smart enough to hold out for an update, or they aren't.
The HTC Evo 4G and Evo 3D are both great phones (3D gimmicking asside). Just because they aren't iPhones, doesn't mean they aren't good. And yes Sprint has poor coverage in a few areas, but they have amazing coverage in others. Not to mention you can't beat the price. I left AT&T and my iPhone after AT&T decided they could alter the way they applied my corporate discount in the middle of my contract. Even after paying an early termination fee, I was saving $30 a month with Sprint in just a few months.
Oh yeah and I have a hell of a lot fewer dropped calls with Sprint, too.And no more "The network is busy" when trying to make a phone call.
All I can say is this. 1) I am sorry about your wife and child and I hope they have recovered well. 2) I am glad that I got an MMR booster in college. I was going to go to Venezuela to do volunteer work and the CDC had a whole list of shots they required. They recommended (as optional) an MMR booster. My doctor was going to pass on it, but I gave him a bad time. Turns out, the Venezuelans were having a bit of a problem with the measels at the time. So I got it, and I Am glad. I would hate to get something like that as an adult!
There is a reason that Microsoft hasn't made this a shipping utility. Microsoft used to give away a free tool for Win98/XP for mounting ISOs and they pulled it. Why? Piracy. Game developers have created Punkbuster, and all those other DRM/Cheating tools I can't think of right now that check for 3rd party ISO mounting utilities. Why? Because these utilities got to be so good that you can use Alcohol 120% and such to mimic the physical copy protection schemes stamped into the disk. I am willing to bet that Microsoft held back this functionality to make content producers happy.
The thing about the 53 character string is that I only have to do it once per device. I have it on a USB stick that i use to setup new devices. So what does it matter if its impossible to remember? I pull that thing out once in a blue moon. Copy and Paste has worked on Android, i**** devices, and any laptop/desktop/etc I have ever connected. It was never a problem until the touchpad.
Actually, Someone mentioned an app called Preware that you can install. It's basically an open source community for the Palm Pre and HP Touchpad. I put that on last night and overclocked mine to 1.5GHz and the thing runs like a champ now. That has done a lot to ease my frustrations!
Really? Been playing with one for two days and I think it's very buggy and slow compared to my Asus Transformer. Especially dislike the failure of copy/paste into WiFi passphrases. 53 character random strings SUCK when typing them into a mobile device. Not to mention my displeasure of not being able to do anything on the device until you hook it up to the internet. But it does surf the web quite well, and seems to play movies okay.
I picked one up on Saturday the 27th at Best Buy, but I am pretty sure they will not be receiving any more units. The manager at the Office Depot across from that Best Buy told me that they may get a few more in stock, but he said not to hold your breath on that one.
I have the same problem on my commute a bit further north in the state (about as far north as you can go, actually). If I can get to the front of the line and go 10 over for a few lights, then I can make it to the freeway with only 0-2 stops. If I can't get to the front and speed, then I hit every light red. It sucks.
This may be the case where you live, but the City of Fresno, California was sued by the EPA a few years ago for artificially slowing down the speed of traffic. They timed the lights so that, if you exceeded the speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour, you could catch every light green. Otherwise, you caught every light red. They then had motorcycle officers waiting to catch you speeding.
The EPA caught wind of this and sued the city, indicating that the city was intentionally increasing smog in order to generate revenue. The City was then mandated that they had to time the lights to make traffic flow as smoothly as possible. So, be thankful you work somewhere that actually cares about traffic, and not about generating ticket revenue.
Run it off the battery? My car (a 1999 Civic) can run the AC with the engine off...
No it can't. If you're in a US market then your Civic uses a pulley to turn the air conditioning compressor. The air blown out may stay cold for a few minutes, but after that the air will start to heat up again. I was going to go to the trouble of looking up the AC Repair manual at autozone.com, but the website runs slow thru my VM and VPN connection. Suffice it to say that my brother has a '99 Civic and I have worked on the car w/ him before.
In fact, I know someone with a 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid and I hated driving in the damned thing. The AC would turn off at every stop light, unless you enabled "max A/C", and then the engine would keep running. Hopefully they fixed that on newer hybrids. Otherwise they are not very useful in hot/humid climates.
My girlfriend is a teacher and Apple paid the teachers $200 to spend a day of their summer vacation learning how to use the iPad in education.

Oddly enough their power performance isn't that much better than a normal HDD (although that might have changed since I last read about it).
That depends on the manufacturer. My intel SSD requires less than 750mA at full tilt. I have an OCZ SSD that uses 2A all the time.

What does your company do? I might like to relocate back to the Bay Area. I'm available for an on-site interview on Tuesday ;)
