What the hell is wrong with you Americans and your belief that CLFS cost $5-$30 each?
When they first came out in the 80's over hear in price gouging Australia you used to have to pay about $15 each.. Back when a Sega Mastersystem or a NES cost us well over $300.
Open your eyes, turn on your brains.. Over hear in the land of 30-60% inflated prices we can buy a 12pack of cheep ones from a hardware shop for under $15.
OH NOES! having to pay $1-2 for a light bulb.. its the end of my life.....
I for one can not wait for their follow up to see if Bike riders are better and faster at riding bikes then people who only exclusively use public transport.
I was somewhere the other day that needed at lest one Upper Case, one Lowecase, one Number and a symbol. Not too bad, except they also limited you to 6 chr only.
Lol, loving all the comments below taking this seriously..
sure it would make sense if we had a passage reading "And 20,000 of the best bitches boarded the arc to keep Noah and his boys busy!" and "Gawd turned his back to all the fornication that he had outlawed"
"But what concerns me is, are we poised to dismantle systems that are capable of standing alone to keep communities and regions 'in-touch' with each other"
I dont know where you live or what magic technology you use, but Telephones have never been stand alone, except in a small number of direct wired locations such as internal coms or maybe some major military back ups. You pick up a phone to dial or connect, and Point B needs to handle your connection to Point c.
Silly American your Government only pays to have the body created not disposed of, the contractor has the choice on that.. They do like to keep the Job secret and most will dispose of the evidence for free.
You put so many ppl in prison for so many crap little offences, the government is so corrupted that its almost able to buy its self. The police are just a rebadged Military force, your Military force is used as the class bully on a world wise scale, and here you guys are complaining about the deprivation of Liberty and government regulations on what is the kind of "protecting the public" that the police should be doing.
Dude, RTFA, its talking about Drug tests being administrated with the breath tests. You can bet they will come in, but at lest here in Queensland for the trial voluntary period we got envelopes with a $50 note in it.
Yes, you poor americans with your unlimited bandwidth, and horrible pings for cable @ 50ms..
Move to another continent and discover what its like to be laughed at for local servers, leaving you with a base ping of 200+, and paying $100 a month For ADSL2 with a 200gig limit.. Square Enix would have to be investing in Data Centers all over the place, and somehow find about 100Trillion to raise the worlds data access to above an average of under 20k.
you know you can get 6-8pks for CFL on Amazon for under $15.

I'm sorry, I cant tell if your a targeted spambot or serious.
Want to know why the NBN is hyping up 50-100mbs as slow and turning the public against it?
They want a fucking monopoly. End of story.
"NBN Co advised that the Coalition's NBN had to be built as a monopoly or risk losing so many customers that it would be financially unviable; and that it should prioritise signing up large numbers of customers quickly rather than racing to cover the entire country."

I tried a few years ago to get Access 97 running on windows 7, no luck.. And so I moved to open office, the libre office.
I was somewhere the other day that needed at lest one Upper Case, one Lowecase, one Number and a symbol. Not too bad, except they also limited you to 6 chr only.
I love them.. I trawl through them laughing at the passwords on them, at least so far as mine have never shown or close variants of them.

Thankfully this would not happen today, as after adding a captcha it is now totally undecipherable by man or machine.
Boring..
Tell me when they loop up enough fiber optic to use quantum entanglement for instantaneous transmission.
As my history teacher used to say when asked 'what was Spain doing in WW2' - "Sleeping off a hangover from their own efforts"

Spoken like someone who has never dealt with one Government department, let alone two.
Its *much* worse when you let them get involved in the development, Billions of $ wasted on programs that don't do what they should.
Here is a nice list of Billions $ in failed software projects.

And a nice little one close to home for me, 8 years and 1.25 Billion $ on payroll software.. Thanks IBM

I do hope you get taken out by a drunk, drugged unlicensed driver whilst avoiding one of these.

About time we all just gave up on posting links, clearly no one reads them, and the Editors don't care.
If Slashdot was to sink any lower, they could help by directly measuring the volcanism 24k down below

Jee, we can't let Google store this kind of information, good thing the police can do what they want with out a warrent!
As opposed to Action moviemaking of yesterday that consists of silly plots and weak acting coupled with technically excellent SFX.
