huh?
are you running xfs linux as the guest or host os? the most recent 2.04 beta1 vmware just out a few days ago is the first to support 2.4.x kernels in guest os's and didnt work at all with 2.4.x for me. perhaps its the options im building it with.
"IBM is a major backer of Linux, a clone of Unix that's become popular with most major computing companies."
I would of thought it should say IBM is a major hacker of linux rather than just a backer, cause this is certainly one big hack job, considering it only lasts 2 hours;)
corel office isnt any real ms office competitor. its simply an alternative. tghe only true competitor to ms's stranglehold is opensource aka openoffice alo0ng with gnomes bonobo.
I remember reading a Nostradmus quatrain interpretation on alt.prophecies.nostradamus a few years ago which said that we would think on who rises to power would be the antichrist, and this appears to be Billie Gates whois name in ascii has also been shown to equal 666 (Bill Gates III?) as does Windows 95 I bleieve. However the prophecy says that the real antichrist will actually be the one that we believe to be our savour... a person who has a big grudge but that everyone likes. Considering the power Linus weilds over the Linux kernel code, could it be true that the mongels from that off the planet newsgroup are actually right????
basically if i want a dynamic ip i can pay maybe 80 a month for a cable connection if im able to get it, and now similar for adsl. however soon as you wish to run any kind of server they screw you for every penny. at present i am stuck on a somewhat decent 56k connection thru a small isp for 100 a month. this get me about 500meg a month. if i wanted to go to anything higher on a static ip like 64k isdn thru telstra, last time i checked it was something lime 500 a month for isp charges, with a 500meg limit, plus 250 a month for line rentals = 750 a month. now that is going from 100 a month for 56k static ip to 750 a month for 64k isdn static ip. and then it just gets worse. fortunately adsl is now available and some smaller isps have paid telstra the rediculous "cover chrge" to get access to the adsl lines, and are starting to put up pricing for static ips on adsl which is actually somewhat affordable for your average person. mind you these max out at 256k upstream, 1.5meg downstream a few hops away from any major backbones at 130 a month. a shit load better than anything else. around tho. telstra optus and the other big boys of course dont even offer static ips on adsl or cable connections unless you are talking in the multi thousands per month for hdsl etc. they keep saying they will release static ip pricing for adsl "any time now", which is what ive been hearing for about 6 months.
"despite comments from the zealots here at/. MS is actually moving towards using standards and open APIs..NET is that direction" ???
Moving TWARDS standards? moving towards the new MS standard would be more the truth. The examples of how they have tried screwing with samba and kerberos and java are exactly what they are trying to do to every other standard. Take their MS Chat cleint for eg which msged "extensions" which pretty much spammed any user not using MS Chat. The hihg degree of interoperability of Exchange?? Like when you get to choose "Internet" or "Corperate" levels in Outlook? One means you can use imap, which of course doesa all sorts of crap you dont want it to and makes sure when they click on the parent imap folder it looks completely ugly as hell, which you can evenb use any more if your comapny/network decides its time to put in an exchange server for your mail and you have to change to corperate mode. Were you trying to past troll crap or was it by shear accident due to your own lack of insight, or maybe you see another dollar to be made through upgrades?
and also when the game boots linux from the cd, searches for filesystems to save game data, and runs flawlessly enough to get people to decide to install linux
Dont you think a realy intelligent house would be completely voice activated for those who could speak anyways. Id prefer to scream at my walls that they are stupid idiots for turning on the dishwasher in tthe middle of the night instead of having to fumble around for a remote control and figure if im telling it its good or bad. I guess having a battery powered system would be an important feature, put good use to an old 486 laptop that has no other use than to also control the houses security system. And Solar Power would be a good feature to build in as well.
I was always under the impression that patents could be used for non-profit. Perhaps the gnu license doesnt allow for this in particular? If it doesnt, wouldnt be an idea that until this stupidity is overturned that there was a license available to allow for the inclusion of patented "whatevers" in freely available software. I understand that this would mean that that software would then limit the useage of the software, but like the existance of the FWTK it would allow it to at least be used by those who want to use it.
is there any support in tux2 for file sizes over 2gig? i have tried using lfs with 2.2.16/17 which allowed me to create a >2gig file except many utils (eg from util-linux) will still not work with files of this size.
i wrote the poem (instead of ircing) linked off my webpage some time ago when my machine was off for the first time in ages. after waking up i turned on the airconditioner and that kinda substituted the noise but was deffinately warmer than my pentium chip. anyways here is my poem:)
i sit waiting in darkness scribling mad thoughts as i await for the approach of one who never comes I am scared so ponder why, yet revealing a longing for anything else
a shunning for those things around me i look for a reason but am stared back by static reality no candle, no flame, no life nothing but a switch and incandesence
i shun the sound, the hum the warm breath of the air conditioner. i had a dream, a dream of a place i know well ending "oh no the phones been cut"
dreams are just reflections of hope, fear, longing, emotions. something only living things can have how many others are this scared what animals are this scared what living things are this scared
i sit in darkness waiting trying to find a reason ending up with nothing but words in darkness
casi might come with a microrive but casio cameras are renowned for being fairly cheap quality. the canon s20 is smaller and much better quality, and also takesa microdrive but doesnt come with 1. i was comapring the two for some time. the only thing i liked about the casio was it took standard aa bateries over the expensive proprietary but much smaller and long lasting canon batteries. i also believe phillips? make batteries of this type for the canon cameras which last longer than the canon ones. they probably dont last alot longer than two aa's but are sure alot smaller. i got tha canon cause i knew the lens and camera quality would be better and it was WAY smaller to fit into the pocket. i ended up having to give it to my gf cause she loved it even more than me:)
nikon coolpix only has a cf type 1 slot for compact flash storage cards which means a max of 128meg. for the same price you could get a ibm microdrive that fits into the cf type 2 slot on the canon s20, which is also 3megapixelsand small enough to put in your pocket. i cant wait till i get my crusoe palm replacement with a cf type 2 slot and pcmica slot and get a 2gig toshiba pcmica drive for the crusoe. then i could swap my 340 meg microdrive out of my s20 into my crusoe and download it all onto my 2gig pcmica drive. phun phun phun.
no laptop, but my computer case IS my breakfast table, and my computer shell my monitor stand, and my seat a piece of rolled up carpet the carpets left me. going to get a laptop when i can find a laptop that runs alot longer than those around atm, but mainly when i can afford one:)
jippee! go bill!! just what we need. is there any open source initiative for video streaming? i guess mp3 encoding is somewhat available in opensource. Its good to see swift generator is available as a cost effective solution for flash, but i havent seen anything that i could use for video streaming:(
ill be at the debian stall:) popped in today and most people at the debian stall were sitting round on their bums with their laptops and bags and clothes all over the place, unlike most of the other stands. half the showroom isnt linuxexpo but i found this out to be fact only when i was leaving today. i was wondering why there were so many stands with windows as i moved away from the obviously linux area, and got lots of wierd looks when i hastily went to the dragon dictate stand excitedly asking about their linux release, except they didnt have one:( but those penthouse chicks were sexy says my gf cept i missed them. tomorrow ill make sure i dont wonder into the non-linux area asking about all the linux hardware support they have, or then again maybe i will:)
as far as your off topic theory goes, i smoke pot and use also windows except ive run out of pot and am yet again considering deleting windows. so that seems to go with your theory quite well. ill have to let you know if when i get my hands on some more smoke if i decide i really couldnt be bother deleting windows after all. probably when mozilla is as nice as ie and i finish this job (which requires me to use mssql argh!)ill end up deleting my windows.dsk but ill probably end up keeping it on there anyways, cause i sure intend to get some more smoke soon:)
i havent worked for the man in years, i refues to work 9 to 5, i am broke and have made maybe 1000 in the last few years. but i am proud of who i am and what i do. i hate to think that i would help this machine to keep on rolling, i do not bludge off the goverment when i could and to all those who are working for the man, i hope you realise what it is you are helping to continue
Talking about comparisons and 32bit x86... Which of these can/will go over 2gig file sizes? I know ext2 has patches to allow large file sizes for 2.2.9 and there are some 2.3.x patches for earlier 2.3.x kernels (at ftp://mea.tmt.tele.fi/linux/LFS/). This does not seem to being included in ext3 (ftp://ftp.uk.linux.org/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/). Is ext3 being included in 2.4.x and will ext2 or ext3 have > 2gig file sizes at this time. Reisfer doesnt do >2gig yet. Does xfs or this jfs?
huh?

> BTW: what exactly is the difference between selling domain names and selling real-estate?
the difference is that if you are thinking of selling your house, it wont be taken away from you for being a squatter

or you could use the TUX kernel patch and write a c based cgi called from tux for anything dynamic

Sounds alot to me like they just took rsbac kernel patches and added it the redhat.

well fan sites are nonprofit anyways so why should trademarks have any holding against them in the first place?

sco also has versioning built into htfs. im not recomending sco as a solution tho :)
