  1. Re:Small ISP on Hunting the Mythical "Bandwidth Hog" · · Score: 1

Why would anyone do business with you? I would change my ISP in a second if they tried to throttle my bandwidth, or "ban" me. I pay for my 10Mbps connection and I will sure as hell use every bit of that if I so choose.

  2. Orion laser is the right solution on The Space Garbage Scow, ala Cringely · · Score: 1

The best solution is a ground based laser which simply shoots the debris, causing it to fall to ground. (If you think I don't know how orbits work, you're wrong). Anyway, google for Orion laser. It's not only feasible, it's probably pretty cheap. And it doesn't matter if access to space is not possible.

Yes, Linux is supported here (TUT, a Finnish technical university). In fact, a lot of computer work is done in a Linux-environment through a SSH connection with a terminal, open formats are accepted in homework, and you can often choose between Linux or Windows computer classrooms.

One can grow food, recycle water and also water is found naturally near the surface in Mars. The ISS should be experimented with advanced sustainable technologies, since the only thing a spaceship ideally needs is energy and no resupplies. Water is recycled and there's oxygen generator in ISS, and some food growing experiments, but it's not advanced yet so they need a lot of supplies.

Why is it that people always talk about Burt Rutan as a some kind of space pioneer? His company has not developed a single rocket. If you wan't to get to Moon, either pay the Russians, or maybe SpaceX.

EU has already committed on co2-cuts, signed the Kyoto treaty etc. EU's economy is 30% larger than the U.S., so maybe you should start to be reasonable and do what every other Western nation does. But no, Americans reduce the debate on these idiotic false dichotomies, it's either Stone Age or the American dream. Also, the European Union is not seeing their economies collapins (well, apart from the global depression created by Americans). In fact, EU is a leader in "green tech" thanks to this regulation.

  14. Re:Slashkos on US Life Expectancy May Have Peaked · · Score: 1

I think the only real solution to obesity in rich countries can never be diets, but a simple gene manipulation which instructs the body not to save energy as fat anymore. I think exercise is just wasting valuable time, it's not like one needs to use the car every day just to keep it in good health. Of course, this gene therapy will have bad consequences also, like increase in food prices because people will eat more, but I think that will be offset by the decrease in health care costs.
