Tell me more about this cross-hatching stuff. I have a old satellite decoder box which only has composite out, and a lot of time I get pixel blocks in the captured video (720x480), that look something like: |x | | x| then switch to | x| |x | on the next frame... they are about 2 pixels per "x" so 4 pixels together. These usually appear around red edges, or around obviously layered digital effects on the video.
I've seen these same blocks on cheap DVD transfers , too. I wonder if this is related to the cross hatching stuff you are talking about?
And if so, how would I go about fixing this problem?
...to have something better than ISDN in my house here in Japan. At least its better than dialup where I paid $300 a month.
Apparently, this country needs to learn what does "national coverage" mean, and that linking two islands with 45mbit link and selling it to 35000 dsl, isdn, and dialup customers is not exactly the correct way of doing things.
Oh, and no signs of current-gen satellite internet in Japan either. DirectPC Japan sells "only to enterprises" with $2000-some for setup and after that billed PER MEGABYTE downloaded.
4,375,130 bytes long. It's either really detailed or someone wanted to play a dirty trick on the admin. I'm still downloading it, at about 1.5k/second.:)
2) Make a microsoft sponsored DVD / MPG / DivX / MP3 player
this has been done a while ago by non-linux zealots using the current xbox kernel, and was even mentioned on slashdot (i'm too lazy to lookup a link right now). Besides, you can have NICE progressive scan dvd/vcd/svcd/mp3cd players (some toshiba set-top box I saw in teh store for $170 comes to mind), which will do this much better than a PC due to usage of custom chips for video processing.
All in all, Linux on a XBox is just a waste of time like many posts above mention - Not a single serious organization will buy X-boxes to "run webservers" on them, especially not schools or anything of that sort. If this project ever gets out anywhere, it will be limited to linux dorks' bedrooms among the trash scattered on their floors.
I also live in japan, and the only "internet connectivity" option available here is 56k metered-by-the-minute dialup which never connects above 33k or so.
Also, if you are talking about this "1000mbit" whatever teh fuck service, you must be talking about "B-FLET'S" (dont get me started on the whole idiocy of "FLET'S" (what the FUCK does that mean)) service, which is 100mbit, and not 1000 as you claim, and is only 6k for the most entry level position.
Which brings me to another point. How can you have say, 3 million people in tokyo signed up for 100mbit b-flets line, that equals to quite a bit of bandwidth pushing around a small city.
To a country where most businesses are still hosted on 64k ISDN lines, mobile phones connect at 9600 baud (if lucky), and reception is shitty in most areas, I dont exactly see how 3 million people could be enjoying full 100mbit "downlink" (none of the b-flets plans mention ANYTHING about reasonable upload speeds, of course).
NTT is trying to be a bandwidth provider, but the fuckers are failing so bad. Too bad there is no other choice. In U.S. If i was going to look for a ISP, I check out their routing, their bandwidth usage graphs which most provide, if they dont provide bandwidth graphs, they suck, they are overselling their bandwidth, you know it. Try to get bandwidth/routing info out of NTT technicians on the phone? Impossible. All trade/whatever the fuck secrets. No good. NTT has no bandwidth. The entire country is probably still running on 155mbit TOTAL bandwidth backbone. NTT outsells that shit totally. Upload speeds on their "8MBIT" service are usually around 2-3k/second, I can do better with a 56k modem in fucking Alaska of all places. Not to mention that Alaska by now has two-way satellite internet, which is absolutely UNHEARD of in japan. Quote from the NTT tech when I asked when I will finally be able to purchase satellite internet service in jApan? Never, (but why is it in america?) - Oh because america is SO MUCH MORE ADVANCED THAN JAPAN. end quote.
Stay the fuck out of japan kids. The country, especially around tokyo, is absolutely fucked. Read english section of mainichi daily news sometime. This place is full of perverts and people who think taking pictures of your underweare with a built in camera phone is "kewl".
with a clearly visible "japanese drool" syndrome. The author thinks that latest japanese stuff is cool, nifty, etc. Well, obviously he was never in Japan as a tourist or living there for any considerable amount of time.
I've collected a bit of interesting reading about the REAL life in japan at http://pepper.idge.net/whatswrong/", you might find some things there quite different from what you've been hearing about this country.
Quality of JPEG saved from linux is really really shitty? I usually get much better results saving JPEGs from say, photoshop than from LinSux. I wonder what's up with that?
If they are duplicating the DVD's how is the quality becoming "worse"? I see this as 100% advantage to consumers, they are getting same quality for less money. Sounds like a winner to me.
What is the point, exactly? 3D engine specs will never be published. Linux losers will be stuck with doing 2D polygons on a $299 console that they could do just as well on a $3 hercules MDA card.
Now we have this? Cmon, let's beat it already. Java is dead. Deader than BSD. C# is the future, and (unlike some mexicans will have you believing) only on Microsoft platform.

I've been running Windows XP since beta2, and it really kicks ass. I don't have to recompile my kernel when I want to install an ethernet card, it automatically detects it and installs the drivers no matter who the manufacturer is. Dual monitors? No chore with windows, get two video cards, two monitors and it's set up! I don't need to edit config files with editors that are 20 years old, and show it. Intellimouse custom buttons? Piece of cake, with my Intellimouse software.
You want to run games? Great! Choose from an array of tens of thousands of games that run great under DirectX and the NT subsystem. Stability got you down? Not in this version, I have had uptimes of over a month (and then the damn power goes out). Good internet browser? No need for Kommunist shit, you've got the great Internet Explorer 6 a click away.
Doing some development? Nothing but the best for Windows users, choose from a suite of Visual Studio products that suits your needs, with one killer IDE. Or, pick up a beta edition of Visual Studio.NET if you have 200 megs of RAM to spare! You Linux faggots can keep rooting for your piece of shit operating system that Windows 3.1 tops in terms of compatibility, all the while hindering your experience for something else you could be doing, while I use the operating system of choice (or by default) for over 200 million others in the world.
Anti-Microsoft zealots piss and moan all you want, but your queer little OS won't be the reigning desktop champion anytime soon.

IDE cable length is what, 18 centimeters? Good luck putting a "server" machine close enough while keeping the IDE cable distances.
I am not sure how many of you haven't noticed this, but how exactly is this different from "chattr +i" for stopping a casual hax0r?
Your average idiot will try to delete stuff, and fail, your above-average l33t d00d will go for the read/write server anyway.
And as someone said earlier, most of "them" will want to READ data as opposed to deleting or modifying it anyway.
Of course, this coming from a Japanese company with a utterly HORRIBLE webpage, I don't think this is going anywhere.
Where did you get that idea from? Collecting trolls doesn't make me a troll myself, and as far as the second one... Whatcha talking about, willis?
many months ago when default.ida was the rage around the www, I added these couple lines to my httpd.conf:
SetEnvIf Request_URI "^/default.ida" dontlog
ErrorLog logs/254-error_log
CustomLog logs/254-access_log combined env=!dontlog
check out SetEnvIf in apache docs, you can do even better than this.

the post of that guy.
Screw this 31337bit encryption, 10-line PGP keys are annoying enough, but imagine getting this shit in every email!
With this stuff, thats so great.
7.2 still installs 20+ default services even in their "desktop" installation mode, with things like NFS, named, you name it...
What the hell is wrong with you people? And you complain when there is a bug found in command.com?

I buy all my music, and I make personal copies for my own use. I've never used napster or other junk, I think people illegally copying stuff are bad.
