Well it seems lately that a lot of rumors from Apple have been true (Cube, mouse). Wait, should I be saying this?... I just got a cease and desist order from Apple. Hey, I didn't see that one coming!

To meet some new friends, Homer takes Marge to the Freshman Mixer. Glancing around, Homer sees a bowl of punch, and decides to help is popularity.
Homer: [spiking the punch] Heh heh, I'll be a campus hero.
[Another student tastes the punch and spits it out]
Student: Attention, everyone: the punch has been spiked.
[Everyone gasps]
Don't worry. Your parents have been called and will be here to pick you up shortly!
[Everyone cheers]

It's great to see that companies are starting to see the benefits of power saving. Not only is this a great thing for the environment, but this is a fantastic boost for the mobile computing industry. With the advent of PDAs and the PalmPilot technologies, power saving components, such as Transmeta's code morphing and the research into resizable caching systems, will be invaluble. Look soon to see this form of technology to catch on strong in the computing field.

With all these consolidated efforts (seti, sledgehammer) going accross the net, maybe something can be formed to bring brilliant minds together to discuss problems like this. They could use slashcode to show results.

How was the effort made to go from 16 bit to 32 bit? Was it a hard effort, as the Sledgehammer project looks? I guess the internet is making it a lot easier for people to port.

I'm just happy to see that Sony can put out a product using the latest technology and manufacturers. Shows Sony can do it's homework and is looking to bring out a better product to fit the needs of power frugal laptop users.

Finally something of this development is coming out in a workable format. I heard about this in a Scientific American years ago and it looked very promising.

AOL sees a good opportunity to hook people in. Most people see and hear about linux with avid curiosity. Those who do use it really have to know their stuff (I tried showing my dad once how to log in and start X... pain). If AOL can get something running on a linux system this would be a big step towards getting linux on the desktop. The truth is the majority of people don't want to have to edit a boot script or know what a boot script is. If linux is going to be a desktop system easy accessability to the os has to happen, and unfortunately it is through programs such as AOL.
On the other side, this may bring some better publicity for linux.

It seems as though GNOME is trying to do everything these days. They have many projects going at once, but I never seem to be satisfied with any of them. Why no shut up about battles and put out a decent product, then there will be no need to say "we're going up against this." There's no need for confrontation.
I also always seem to get this unstable feeling about any of the projects (with the exception of GIMP). Maybe it's just me.

IBM is always looking to strengthen its presence in the network market. Hell money drives everything. A Novell addition is just going to make that presence a little larger. This will give IBM great chances for more out-sourcing and other ventures in the e-business and network market.

This was one of the great things that came about with the introduction of the high speed network. My whole house is networked using a linux box as the gateway. My whole family can access at anytime and have high speed. I don't know what we'd do without it. I guess I have to put the hive five to services such as @home and sympatico for allowing this sort of high speed service so many users can access the net quickly. This clause though is a real shame as it really takes advantage of people and the ease of the connectivity. What I don't understand is why they would get all stuff about a family using it that way, or a bunch of college kids. Guess it's bad for business and their take home pay.

What's going on with all these Office suites? It's great that Gnome wants to challenge MS-Office (with one spreadsheet prog right now?), but what about StarOffice and KOffice? It's great that the large corps are getting in on it, but I believe these other office suites (which are very stable and relatively complete) should have some more press. I mean a lot of work has been put into the KDE suite (WM and Office programs). Will this have anything to do with HelixCode?. All these separate developments are too much.

Personally I feel the whole idea that these parties believe in free software is preposterous. If I were an ISP I'd get the cheapest, most stable os to run my server and stick with that. If it turns out to be a free software product, that's pure coincidence. The party people (that's a funny way of putting it) just rely on the people running things to keep it going. I bet they wouldn't care if they do use Win2K, as long as the bottom line is met, and the site isn't hacked to death.

Does anyone know if games like Contra and Super Metroid will be hitting the GameBoy Colour or Advance? I see games like Excitebike hitting the Nintendo 64 and raising spirits. It would be great to have those games on a handheld console. Still it's good to see updates for other classics as Zelda (but who didn't see that one coming).

For some reason my mom cut out a picture of Cindy Margolis and put it on the fridge. She did it for my dad. I find this whole thing insane. I liked her as a fembot, but as my dad's pinup as a present from my mom, no way...

Got this off of the jwz site. Here's a link to his bookmarks. The movie of the whale blowing up is under the heading of "Silliness" and under the sub heading of "Blowing Shit Up." Hope that satisfys your blubber craving.
