Alas, from experience I can attest that usually this is your own fault for writing nonstandard code targetting some particular feature of gcc. The best thing you can do to your code is to make sure it compiles on multiple compilers. Listen to your compiler's warnings; you ignore them at your peril.
I wanted to use the COM features in Office.X to link in some c++ code that I wrote. It turns out that Office.vX doesn't use the Darwin COM model and you can't make it.
Does the Office2004 COM interface play nicely with 3rd party developer tools like Xcode?
Hey, as a Canadian who lived in the US for a while, the whole "Canadians are Americans because it's North America" thing is a bit tired. Canadians never, ever, ever refer to themselves as Americans. Canadians unambiguously refer to their neighbo[u]rs to the south as The Americans. The word "Canuck" is a different story: nobody here uses it, but nobody gets offended if you do.
I think this confusion exists because there are people in Latin or South America that think the US has misappropriated the broader term "America", and prefer a wider definition of the word that recognizes other nations. Hence things like the Organization of American States (of which Canada is a member), or the School of the Americas.

On the first digital watch:
"... we still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea."
[obDouglasAdams reference]
Most public access wireless nets do not employ WEP.
The ones I have seen use a proxying technique which redirects your MAC address to a "pay us" screen.
Never heard of this aluminum-conspiracy-law thing.
I have an aluminum pan and a stack of aluminum cans in my kitchen. And I live in Toronto!

I haven't tried it, but WinAmp did release an Alpha version for Linux. I think it has been abandoned, but you can try searching for it...
maybe here?
I found that grip/gqmpeg/x11amp work fine for me.
It's for this reason that I always buy 11x8.5" laser printer paper instead of 8.5x11". Sure, it costs like $15 extra, but it goes sideways. :)
