  1. CFL also has an issue in ceiling fans. The vibration causes the transformers to die prematurely. I asked the guy in the lighting section about it, and he suggested compact halogen, not sure how much power they save over incandescent though.

Snow? My car's antilock has a built in limitation that if it engages too long (very short time) it locks up, as when stopping in snow, that is the safest option.

I would say the whole of the Maryland highway system...not just Balt. Towing a canoe trailer to a boyscout campout, I turned on my turn signal to merge left (entrance ramp onto a highway) and was surprised when the semi that was letting me over honked, I look behind me, and the Camry that was behind me decided they wanted to risk being run off the road. :)

It happens far too often that people just think they are the only one on the road.

The problem with Verizon is that AT&T is no better, T-Mobile wishes it had a decent network, and Sprint works nearly nowhere. There is no choice in wireless, and Verizon is the best of the bunch. If people had other choices, Verizon wouldn't be able to survive while adding more and more fees for things they have been encouraging people to do for years...

Their climate is what I would call pretty damn cold? Also, the jet stream comes out of the arctic before running down Europe, causing it to be generally colder than the eastern US. Therefore the likelihood of AC being common in France is actually quite low.

Humans also adapt quite well to the temperatures they deal with on a regular basis. An Alaskan resident will have trouble dealing with a southern winter just as a southern resident will have trouble dealing with an Alaskan winter. Europe also has the effect of the jet stream to keep their region a touch colder than the eastern US. You will also notice if you look at a map, France is about as far north as Canada and Maine. It is a pretty cold country, at least it should be.

Up to a point yes, but below around 25 F, a heat pump has to enable "emergency heat" which is a large, inefficient electric heater. This is why I chose a house with natural gas heat, it is hooked to the AC unit, but only uses the blower during the winter. But if you live more south of the Mason Dixon line, you may never have known this (I live in MD, it is currently 25F outside, and yes the houses with only a heat pump are freaking cold right now)

Recently while in the bank, I asked about debit card security, and was told not to EVER use my debit card online, or to pay bills, as it has none of the protections credit cards have. If your debit card is somehow leaked, they can clean out your entire account, and there isn't the instant theft protection of a credit card where they credit the money back. Be careful with that plastic, it is very risky stuff.
