Wow, have you ever heard of "receiving stolen goods"? It is a law different from theft for a reason, and requires intent in order to be prosecuted. I am personally wondering how they can even charge the guy who found the phone with stealing, as he attempted to directly contact Apple as well and was told it wasn't their property.

Except no one took a prototype. According to the information out there, the guy found it left in a bar, tried to call Apple to let them know and was told by the person that they knew nothing about it. The law in CA states he should have turned it in to the bar tender, but I highly doubt many people knew this was the law or would have done it.

If you haven't noticed yet. This used to be true of AT&T and Verizon, until recently. AT&T started going after the rooted tetherers, now Verizon is following suit. How long do you think before Sprint follows? This happened with Unlimited data as well, AT&T stopped offering it, then Verizon followed. Essentially by saying tethering works on rooted Android, you are admitting to stealing service from Sprint, as they charge extra for the feature (just like AT&T and Verizon).

The problem with your #1 source is that the President at the time has nothing to do with the budget. The House and Senate are the ones who write the budget.

You see that spike in years 6-8 of Bush? That was a Democrat controlled Congress. The President can make recommendations, but it is up to Congress to pass them or ignore them. You will also notice that the only portion of Obama's presidency on there was a Democrat President with Democrat Congress. This says quite a bit about Democrats vs Republicans to me. Granted, they are both terrible and should be thrown out for not repealing the campaign contribution problems we are dealing with.

Not using DNS servers outside the US won't stop this. The problem is that all these websites believe they need to be in .com (or other TLD from the US). If you don't like the laws of the US, don't use a US TLD. When you use a .com domain, you are submitting to the laws of the US, not the country where the server is hosted. If you want to host content deemed illegal in the US, you should instead be using freemovies.cn where it is legal to share other people's work for free.

The issue you are seeing here isn't the issue at all. The .com TLD IS owned and run by the US.

I can't say I agree with this imaginary property thing, but downloading someone else's song because you don't feel like paying for it is depriving the RIAA/Label/Artist of income on that song. Until someone changes the laws, it is nothing new that this is against the law, it has been since copyright came to be.
