Who cares about "closeness". It's meaningless.
I'd rather a closed system to maintain the quality of the products and keep malicious programs out over an open system which allows anyone and anything in.
To the average consumer, as long as it works, it's fine.
Seriously, between the general dickishness of the contributors and the fact that they seem to take themselves way too seriously, what's the point.
I'm not going to go to Wikipedia because I want to seriously research something anyway, so why take the attitude that you're better than everyone else.
