I don't know much about PI. I've only calculated it to 1 million decimal places. But, I reckon a cool slashdot project would be to make a dist net program to calc PI to beat the world record (64.5 billion places i think). Would be easy, and just think... would get/. in the guiness book of records.
I think I read somewhere the record is over 200 billion.
Yeah - but if I'm only interested in encrypted communication. Can I do this without a costly certification? And I wouldn't want to cause those scary warnings to user either. (I know that I lose some of the security this way because I cannot be sure that the other end is what I think it is.)
What use is encryption if anyone can de-crypt it? If you just want cheap, there are various "webs of trust" out there, but bear in mind, you get what you pay for. And if a member proves to be less than trustworthy, it's difficult to revoke their trust.
Look at the Kennedy Space Centre sight. They describe the shuttles in minute detail. They also have a very detailed study of the events that led to the Challenger failure.

If you look at ASCII on the binary level its somewhat random - its roots are in teletypes, it was not desigined to be processed.. EBCDIC on the other hand is desigined to have processing done. A-Z is the same as a-z if you ignore a bit.
Damn. And all this time I'd been thinking I could just ignore ASCII bit 5 for case insensitivity...
You claim that big business exploits technology to control individuals? How is exactly? Through ads?
I dont find ads to be exploitive. I find ads to be annoying and often dumb, but never to the level of exploitation.
Well, how about the tobacco companies deliberately targetting ads at teen-agers, to get the maximum mileage from them over their lifetime, even when they know the product's causing them harm?
3) eBay, as it always mentioned in it's policies, has the right to refuse to actually auction anything it doesn't want to. Normally, there is a list of things that don't stand a chance (human body parts, guns, etc.), but they still reserve the right to refuse service. Whether or not this is the actual case or not doesn't matter. I didn't expect the auction to last that long anyways.
It wasn't pulled by eBay - it was pulled by the seller, which is totally OK. And if you go to the site, you'll see they're still accepting legitimate offers by e-mail.

You've just typed heaps more than you needed to, and there's just no need. Either just spell it out (as you need to in braces afterwards, anyway), or use your brain and just say
I mean, you're either doing NET with microsoft or not doing it at all!
Not necessarily. Check here.

P.S. This is my "Take THAT, BSD!" post, and I expect it to get down to Score: -1, flamebait or troll.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that trolling / flamebait which has disclaimers like this always seems to get moderated up as "funny"?
I see nothing at all funny here...

Well, you're lucky I have no points today - I would've shoved it down another spot.
And you've got no right saying where your post "ought to be" - that's why not being allowed to moderate your own posts is a Good Thing (tm)

So, essentially, this is even worse that you might have thought. There is pretty much no "western data haven" to work from.
Didn't see Australia mentioned anywhere!! Hey maybe we should market our country as the "cyber-crime centre"!!

Read the previous thread titled "Straight Dope" (or similar). Spells it out nicely.
