Starcraft? Cerebral? It's a massive clickfest. The amount of micro you have to do to be competitive is mind-boggling.
I'm not saying it doesn't take brains to be good at Starcraft, its like saying basketball is cerebral. Sure, smarts let you make better decisions, but if you are fast and strong, that probably makes a much bigger difference than "smart" basketball.
I've worked at a couple startups, and the unfortunate truth is when we hire someone, we expect them to be productive by the end of the first week.
A less experienced guy with the right skills will win out over the more experienced guys without those skills, especially if you factor in the cost and possible "ego" issues. At a startup everyone has to do the dirty work. Its sometimes more difficult to get the experienced folk to wear the build engineer hat for the day, or handle a support escalation.
And stop with the Prop 13 blame. It's BS. Jebus, even many progressive politicians here don't trot that one out anymore. Go back and look at what led up to Prop 13. It didn't form out of a vacuum. People were having to get *loans* to pay their property taxes. It is INSANE to tax people on unrealized gains!
You may think its insane, but it is clearly benefiting property owners over tenants. Over a long enough time, there will be the few with property, and the rest that rent from them, because it will no longer be economical to buy or sell property to lose the locked in property tax rates.
Also, there is stupid stuff in prop 13 which allows for commercial property to qualify for the locked in rates. Companies just buy and sell the shell companies that own the real estate, rather than buy it outright and reset the property taxes.
Despite those laws, monthly fluctuations in crash rates didn't change after bans were enacted, all though there were less people using devices while driving
I assume the article took that into account somehow, maybe not perfectly (ie. relying on a survey). Another explanation could be that people who used to be talking on the phone when driving are now using hands-free devices which don't count in their survey. Some studies have shown that using hands-free devices don't really help and equally distract the driver as him holding the phone to his head.
You picked the one example where your system is sun->solar panels->electricity->running simple electric device. (although this is a very common case)
Processing ore such as aluminium ore consumes electricity and generates much less heat energy than is input. Basically chemical process that is endothermic will do this.
If it's always clear weather, and daytime, and all the boats have transponders so that you never make errors in identifying which boats are pirate and which aren't, that might be reasonable.
Transponders? Just look for a black skull-and-crossbones flag, no?
Do you even know how a rocket works? There needs to be something "thrown" out one end for the rocket to move forward. If you "catch" it in the same structure, you no longer get the "equal and opposite force".
If you used the H2 and O2 to generate power to throw something else out the end of the space ship, then you might have a story (but then again, at the end of the day, what you are talking about is a battery / fuel cell hooked up to a solar cell to recharge).
This is obviously not how the shuttle works, nor do we build "rockets" that operate on this principle to get into orbit in the first place.
Its even more complicated than that. I'm not sure where the article came from when it says the low intensity workout is the best. Is it proven?
Reason being is I've heard differently, high intensity training is supposed to give the "afterburn" effect they talk about in the article, where you burn more calories resting after the high intensity exercise, supposedly to rebuild / strengthen the muscle / heart / lung tissue.
Nope. Most people don't realize it, but financial crimes in the US are punished pretty severely.
I don't have a problem with the amount of punishment, but I'm pissed with how few get caught. If you follow the market and take a look at important announcements like rate cuts, economic numbers, earnings reports, etc., you could often (not always) see high volume trade before the announcements pre-announcing the result. Its sad that people almost never get caught, considering how often it happens.
The connection in itself AFAIK is secure / encrypted and cannot be snooped, what isn't sure is WHO I am talking to, and could well be talking to Vladimir hackov in Ukraine instead of Wells Fargo.
Hello? Isn't that the very definition of snooping??
There was NO MONEY for the bond holders *or* the UAW to have "preference" over.
What are you talking about? GM had plenty of assets. In a bankruptcy, the guys who hold GM debt (bondholders) should be able to decide to sell all the assets to pay off as much of the debt as they can.
Real-estate has been a lot cheaper in the area after the mortgage meltdown.
Yes. From too-bloody-expensive to merely still-too-bloody-expensive.
Watching grass grow? Watching birds? Tell us *really* what you are going to use the webcam for...

I think this depends on the state.
See this flowchart on how to fire a New York City school teacher.
IANAG, but I would assume earthquakes tend to assist moving matter "downhill"

Its simply broken.

Yep, today, the phone call would just be dropped due to the network being overloaded... :)
Oxygen is cheap on the moon if you can get a good energy source (ie. nuclear reactor). The moon is mostly silicon / iron / calcium oxide.
WTF mods, you may not agree with the guy, but the guy is posting his concerns.
He's not flamebaiting or trolling.

I think most people read it as "red shaft"...
if only the roomba had a vagina :(

You must be popular with the ladies then.
Real posters use butterflies
However, surely parents should have a certain amount of... familiarity with the answer to, "where do babies come from?"
Huh? Why would they? Its not like they get to chat with the stork when the baby is dropped off.

Can't that be moved by truck, while the bulkier stuff (hopefully lighter) can be moved by blimp/zepplin?
